Hmmm...cotton canvas/linen?

I picked up 2 yards of a light cotton canvas yesterday at Hobby Lobby in the remnants for 2 bucks! I am debating though. (Please bear in mind that I am new to sewing as you read my question - I might ask something very stupid.) I originally thought I'd make a tote out of it but then I started thinking about diaper covers. Its not really stiff but how about breathability? Would it be kind of waterproof or not? Anyone have any ideas on that? Thanks alot!

Cotton canvas is not waterproof, so I can't see using it for a diaper cover. My first thought for light cotton canvas is loose pants, like the Hanna Andersen beach pants. You can trace a pattern from a pair of pants that you like, and elastic waists are pretty easy. I like to have a pattern, myself though. I get either Kwik Sew that I know I'll use more than once, or wait until Joann does the $1 sale (and they do them all the time.)

Yeah, I ran it under the faucet and found out myself. I think I'll go with my original tote idea. Thanks though - and thanks for the info on the Joanne pattern sale - I had no idea. (new to all this)

You can search patterns online, then have your list ready when the sale starts. It's so easy. You have to get on the Joann mailing list to get the flyer by signing up at a store. Simplicity patterns and McCalls go on sale regularly.
