Need ideas for non-costume dress up

DD is in first grade and they are doing a "storybook" theme with a parade. They are supposed to dress up as a storybook character but said no Halloween costumes. I am stumped. I am not very creative and do not have extra time or desire to spend extra money, beyond what we already dished out for her costume. Nice in theory, but less so in practice.

So I need ideas that I can implement with her regular wardrobe or minimal additions that I could easily purchase as I am not very crafty, either.

brainstorming some ideas;

-do you or any other member of your family have a red hoodie for a little red riding hood?

-if you have any long skirt/peasant tops/flowy dresses (who doesn't on MDC, right? lol) could be a variety of things from Anne of green gables, alice in wonderland, any of the Grimm brothers maidens, etc (it would kind of depend what kind of hair your dd has, if red, i'd go for anne, if blonde-alice, that kind of idea)

pippi longstockings? pigtails, crazy wardrobe...

dorothy from wizard of oz is quite simple, find or borrow some red patent shoes (or crocs, lol)

i'll keep this thread in mind and keep adding things as they come to me.

ETA; just thought of Fancy Nancy, does your daughter like her? she is all kinds of tacky, anything goes really!

Pinkalicious! Dress her completely in pink from head to toe.

What's her favorite book? Dress her as a character from that book and send a copy along.

There are plenty of story book characters who just wear normal little girl clothes, b/c they are just normal little girls. Think of Romana an Beezus just to name one.

Thanks, mamas, for all the ideas. After looking through some of her books with her to find a "normal" girl with fun clothes, we agreed on Lola from the Charlie and Lola series, specifically Lola in her "schooliform" in I am Too Absolutely Small to go to School. DD is in public school now but was in a private Cathlolic school of Kindy, so we still have her uniform.
