Do you have background noise during the day? - Page 2

I like having the TV on as background noise.

I listen to CBC Radio 2 during the day -- it keeps my brain from getting too mushy!

I have the TV on. Most mornings its the kids shows like Sprout. But some days it will be the music channels on our cable box. Especially during the holidays. I'll have it on holiday music. After Halloween basically. Right now, DD2 1/2 is watching her movie Rapunzel and I got to get my mopping done because she's watching that and not running around playing. DD1 is napping. So its perfect for me. Once I use up all my chemical cleaners and start using my homemade cleaners it won't be so bad. I won't have to wait like this. But I don't even watch the TV during the day. It's just noise. The kids actually like it when I have the music on the TV in the mornings when they wake up. (Plus, they don't get distracted while getting dressed.) Next week, I'll go back to the music in the mornings while they get ready and then once they are off to school, I'll put it back on cartoons.

nak
i grew up with tv as background noise & so did dh, so we are used to that.

we also rotate in sirius radio through one of their old boomboxes that sits in our sunroom next to the kitchen. this probably won't be popular here, but i listen to howard stern alot. he isn't strippers & porn like people think. he has great guests & they talk about the events of the day-it makes me feel human. the other day, billy joel called in & i cleaned the kitchen listening & it didn't feel like work at all!!! if something icky is on howard, i turn it to some of the great music stations i love.

i noticed the baby has been looking at the tv screen the past week so i have turned it off for blocks of time. when it's on during the day, it's stuff like rachael ray, the view, reruns of 90210 from soap net (very guilty pleasure of mine & makes me feel very young!), Dr Oz & Oprah. dd1 gets short spurts of sprout shows or dvds.

Yes, either a music CD (Keller Williams, Grateful Dead etc) or a DVD (Sesame Street, Winnie the Pooh, etc). I don't like quiet.

during the day, music. Either Christian (klove) or one of the Sirius channels we have on Dish. Country, Hits1 or 90s.

Sometimes I do and sometimes I don't, it kind of depends on everyone's mood. If I'm spending a lot of time cleaning, then there is almost always music on. If we are just hanging out, usually there isn't. If I find we are all just kinda sitting and staring, music normally gets us up and moving. I do avoid having the TV on for background noise. DD will just stop, park her butt and stare no matter what is on if I do that. Rarely, I turn on the news while I make dinner (the news was always on while my parents made dinner when I was a kid and it just makes things feel more homey to me, lol).

If DH isn't home, NPR is on. I stream it online and have wireless speakers in two locations in the house.

No. But we homeschool, so I either keep it as quiet as possible with the chaos that already is 4 children and a dog that barks nonstop or I put on quiet classical music in a worthless attempt to make them concentrate.

I'm all about quiet as much as possible, though.

No I hate background noise. If I have music on it's because I'm actively listening to it.

Nothing when the kids are home. When the kids are not home I listen to NPR, or I listen to the blessed silence...

Once in awhile I do the regular radio. I do not use tv for background noise, I use it so DS has something to stare at while I put DD down for a nap
What is the station called, if I may ask?

I personally enjoy silence but my DD often asks for Pandora and I usually go ahead and turn it on for her.

Background noise drives me insane. I need to hear myself think. LOL. DH can hardly function without the TV or radio on. So during the day when he's not home I keep everything off.

dont own a tv but we pretty much listen to itunes radio stations or our local radio for a chunk of the day... and even during quiet time, my dd loves listening to stories on tape.

maybe im an oddball, but it helps me think when i have something on..

I'll listen to podcasts, NPR, or music.

trying to break the tv habit, but DH was a bad influence on me when we got married and we got stuck in a watching tv all evening sort of rut. DS is not even 2 yet, so we still have that a bit, so I'm really trying hard to not have it on during the day except when DS won't nap, just to get him to sit down and relax for a bit. On the weekend we watch more tv than we should just because DH is home, I'm pregnant and tired and he is exhausted from the work week. I'd much rather be out doing stuff, but right now that's where we're at. If the tv isn't on though, I like to have the radio on. I like the background noise too

I almost always have classical or instrumental music playing.
