We took the boys off of dairy on August 21st. (I had been dairy free from the beginning of July with dh; we know it is what we need and were curious how the boys would respond.) Pretty quickly we started seeing some regression in behaviors (all three boys, but especially ds#2, have neuro responses to gluten and artificial ingredients), which I expected as they detoxed from dairy. But, especially for ds#2, his regression has gone on for the last two months. He has been eye-blinking non-stop (a tic he gets when he is exposed to an illegal food/ingredient), increased rigidity in mood/emotions, more aggressive, exceptionally quick to anger, continued night-wetting ... all the classic signs that he has had an offending food. But, he hasn't had anything that he shouldn't, and even if he had, the reaction shouldn't last longer than a month. As we "speak" he is sitting next to me crying over and over about a game he is playing with ds#1. Could his system actually need something from the dairy that he's not getting now, actually setting him into reaction-mode?
He is taking Brainchild Nutritional vitamins, which they all have been taking for well over a year (maybe close to two? I can't remember). He sleeps as long as he needs (we homeschool and I don't make them wake at any particular time). He plays baseball 3-4 times a week and gets outside to ride his bike/play around almost daily. I just can't figure out why we are having all the behavior/neuro issues still - it is as if eliminating dairy was bad rather than either being good or neutral. Any ideas?
