DD1 got her first tooth at 17 months and 1 week. The pedi dentist wanted to "cut her gums" if she hadn't gotten one by 18 months. I still wasn't convinced that was a necessary procedure. After the first one, they came in like popcorn.
DD2, DS1, and DS2 all had more "average" times for their first teeth.
DD1 is now 10 and is losing her teeth much more slowly than her peers also. The dentist tells me that because her mouth is bigger and better able to accommodate adult sized teeth she is less likely to need orthodontia.
My daughter didn't cut her first tooth (actually, two in one week) until she was a little over 8 months old. I was relatively certain she was just going to be Toothless McGee forever, LOL. Anyway, she's 11 months old now and she still just has the two teeth so she's a slow tooth-grower evidently.
My son got his 1st tooth 2 weeks before his 1st birthday. My husband didnt have a single tooth until 15months according to my MIL Id say its perfectly fine not to have teeth yet.
Im not even expecting to see teeth in my daughter until a year
My son is 8 months too and still all gums (though he thinks he can eat everything Mommy and Daddy eat). Apparently this is normal for kids from DH's family- my SIL didn't cut a tooth until she was 13 months old! My husband and his brother and other sister all cut their first teeth around one year. I read that genetics can contribute to how soon the teeth come, so I've stopped looking for teeth and resigned myself to the fact that it will probably be a few more months.
