What do room parent's do?

I volunteered to be a room parent at my toddler's "preschool." There are three rooms there--toddler, pre-1 and pre-2, and my son went through their whole program (is now in K). We have a new director and she wants to start up room parents--there have not been room parents before. I and the other room parents are meeting this week to talk about our plan for the program. So, um, what should we do?

thanks!

I think that depends on the school..in my case (I'm a room mom for my DD's 1st grade and was also a room mom for Preschool and asst. mom for K)

We plan parties, arrange the details of field trips, arrange and compile class baskets for the 2 yearly auction fundraisers, send out e-mails to the other parents with notifications (school picture day, special classes etc).

I'm in either phone or e-mail contact with the teacher bi-weekly if not every day.

We also act as class liaison with the PTO.

oh...in preschool, we also arranged special visitors - like a guitar player and a dentist to come in.
