We live in earthquake and fire country. We've been evacuated twice. We have verbal plans and DH & I both handle emergency situations very level-headedly with minimal fuss. We're on the same page with regards to importance of which items and where to go, etc.

Since those two big fires, my dad has moved to town and lives a minute's walk from us (although we cannot see one another's homes from our own) and our DD is now 9 years old (she was very young and always with me in the other situations). Both of these people are the type to panic in an emergency and are wildly unpredictable.

I feel the need to put our emergency plans on paper now and to share them with close neighbors and my dad and DD. I started with a one-page list of important phone numbers and a definition of 'emergency' for DD. I had her practice something from the list each week for most of the last year or two. I have worked with her on situations verbally and experientially...role-playing and literally doing things differently. She still panics. Since I've been working with her on these types of things her entire life (not emergencies, per se, but the general concept), I'm fairly confident this is just her nature. She needs very concrete instructions and to practice a lot.

So, I went to type everything up and I am stuck. I just act. When I think of all the possibilities, it just seems so ... overwhelming.

Got any tips???

Maybe if I heard about other real-life plans, I could devise something usable for us?

Thanks!
