Too large time committment with RightStart math?

I'm currently a student (as is DH) and we plan on homeschooling our DDs (currently 2yrs old and 9mths old) while we both work FT. I have faith that it can be done (I'm part of a yahoo group for parents that work and homeschool) although I know that our ambitions may have to stay in check for a while (no learning Latin or anything for a while. ) It helps that we'll be fairly relaxed homeschoolers.

Anyway, its really to soon to commit to a certain curriculum, but I enjoy looking and trying to get familiar with which curriculums would meet our needs and which wouldn't.

I really like the ideas behind RightStart, I'm just wondering about the time it takes to implement it. i'm hoping I'll be able to work 4 days/week, which would create a 3 day weekend (and I have no objections to 'doing school' on the weekends).

Obviously, given our situation (a lot to fit into a small amount of time), we need a program that doesn't have overly-lengthy lessons. Some review (and math games) can be done by our nanny during the day, but the lessons themselves will have to be taught by me or dh on the weekends or after the workday.

If you think rightstart would take up too much time for us, what are some similar programs that are less time-consuming?

We're using rightstart alpha and don't find it time consuming at all. it's the least time consuming subject we're doing. we generally get through a lesson in about 15 minutes. our history and science stuff usually takes between 30 mins to an hour.

love love love rigthtstart math. it is the one curriculum I buy out of pocket every year even though our charter doesn't supply it but would supply other choices. I find it easy to implement because I don't have to read the lessons ahead of time. similar to earlier post, we spend 15-30 min on a lesson and sometimes double up since we do math 3 times a week, not 5.

hmmm...I find both of these posts reassuring. I'm also not worried about getting through the lessons really fast, if that helps. I'm only planning on doing math 3-4x per week.

Thanks for your feed back, violet and limette. Hopefully others will have equally good things to share.

We use Right Start, but have mostly been in level B. I'd say that most days we average about 15 minuted for math, but there are some days that we do spend up to 30 minutes. Often, though, the longer or more challenging lessons say that they are intended to be done over 2-5 days. Many times, these lessons (there are about 106 lessons for the level B book) are ones that we still do in one or two days, so they do take longer. And, there are a few lessons (2 or 3) early in the year that do take a decent amount of prep before/during the lesson--"cut out the triangles for demonstrating x" and "color in these quadrillion squares to demonstrate place value". And I've done it and saved it for my next kids. But it would also be skippable. Good luck in your choice! We do really like RS. Both of my two older kids like it, even though they learn (and behave) very differently.
