what is wrong with my puppy?!?!

last night he kept me up ALL. NIGHT. LONG.
he is 8 months old and is a black lab/puggle cross, he's about knee-high and maybe 40-45 lbs.

he woke me up with incessant whining at about 2:30 so i let him outside. i brought him in and tried going back to sleep but he kept crying to be let out, so i let him out again. he stayed up for a few hours walking around and whining so i let him out again. i crated him after that because it was 4:30 and i was sick of listening to him.

i noticed last night that he is SUPER ITCHY and has disgusting smelling ears. i had to take my son to an emerg. dental x-ray and so i crated him again...when i got back he had thrown up all his food and some green bile in his crate. he is still super itchy and his ears still stink.

other than that he is in good spirits and is running around the house. he is wagging his tail and is happy to see us...

what would you do?!

Um, take him immediately to the vet?

Sounds like he's got something going on. Maybe a simple ear infection, maybe something worse. But he's obviously uncomfortable and quite possibly in a bit of pain.

*sigh*

we really can't afford to take him to the vet right now. my husbands EI got cut off without warning. i'll call the vet and see what they say. :/

Have you switched food recently?

I defnitely think he should be seen by a vet as dogs usually dont get smelly and itchy overnight, but those symptoms are common in food allergies.

ugh...emergency care is going to be about $170 bucks. i made him an appointment for tomorrow morning at 9:40...they told us just to monitor him overnight until then. it is still going to be about $80... :/

I would say that it sounds like an allergic reaction between the itching and the stinky ears. The green vomit is worrysome though. Is the itching or stinky ears new?

hello...yes the itching and the stink was new...we took him to the vet and they thought allergic reaction or maybe a spider bite...we have a lot of black widows around here so that could be it. he is always poking around in the bushes in the backyard.

they got us to buy some specialized dog food for him and some benadryl and he's been doing MUCH better. they said he might have eaten something that was stuck in his intestines and if he didn't get better to bring him in for more tests but i think he's getting better!

So glad to hear he's doing better. It is awful when they are sick because they can't tell us what's going on.

Why the special dog food unless it's a food allergy? Unless you just started a new food or something like that, of course. Sorry, just a pet peeve, it seems many vets try to push the food they sell on us whenever we go in.

I'm glad your pup is feeling better! Did they tell you what dosage of benadryl to use if it happens again in the future?
