how many Pairs of shoes? ... coming into Winter

DS, 13 months, has worn his robeez sandals every day this summer. He just recently became mobile, but even before that, seems like ONE pair of shoes isn't enough.

Just coming into winter and now with a mobile kiddo, curious how many shoes you have for your lil toddlers? There's some awfully cute "boots" out there - seems a mommy want more than functional. But I was thinking a pair of boots and a pair of normal low "shoes".

(i'm a mom who still wears burks and boots, and one pair of dress-ups, so shoes aren't exactly my thing, yk)

My kiddo has two pairs of shoes, one that was given two us or shed only have one pair for winter. I plan on getting her boots but probably nothing else. We don't do shoes inside so we only need something when we go out. at 19 months, I still often don't put shoes on her anyway when we go to the store as she is NOT ready to walk at all. she sits in a cart or is carried. I figure having more shoes would just be a waste of money haha

well, my other thing is that Shoes are the only way to keep the socks on! If he'd keep his socks on, we'd go without shoes for most shopping outings, but because he doesn't... I put shoes on the minute I put socks on. So we do shoes in the house a lot.

He also can't walk in anything other than soft shoes yet. I don't have anything in between... either soft or totally hard. I need a mid-shoe to get him working with it. Right now in hard-soled shoes, he just looks the same way my cats do when I put leashes on them - he just stands all confused and doesn't even attempt to take a step.

DD has one pair of sandles, one pair of Robeez, and one pair of soft-soled shoes that have more padding to protect her feet on longer walks outside. we'll probably get her a pair of boots for when it snows.

My son is just about 19 mos old. In the summer he had 2 pairs of sandals (1 were water sandals, the other leather). For winter, he has slippers (we have chilly hard wood floors), and two pairs of Soft Stars (1 pair of shoes, 1 pair of boots). He also has a pair of hand-me-down Saucony sneakers from his cousin.

At 13mo, when my kids were outgrowing shoes in 3 months or so, I only got them one pair at a time. I think I may have had his regular shoes plus water shoes the summer DS was 1.5, but I don't recall ever buying boots for any child under 2. And until the baby was ready to walk in regular shoes, I wasn't letting them walk outside in the snow anyway. IMO, hard soled shoes for young, newly walking toddlers are a complete waste.

JordanKX, I'd suggest that you keep with the soft shoes until he's a more stable walker. He might need the next size by then, so it's a waste to buy it now. And little kids can't walk in shoes that are too big for them- they trip over the toes.

A sneaky way to keep socks on baby's feet is to put the baby in tights intead of socks, and then put pants on over the tights so it looks like socks.

DD was 14mos this time last year & was walking well. My mother bought her all kinds of gorgeos leather shoes, runners, slippers, dress shoes - you name it. All she wore the ENTIRE winter though was her snow boots. She might have worn the dress shoes all of 3 times over Christmas, I was so disappointed. For the summer she was rarely out of her sandals so this fall I've smartened up & am really only buying her one pair per season (since that's how fast she outgrows them anyway). That being said I just bought her winter boots & a pair of cheap dress shows at a Striderite outlet a few weeks ago that should last her until spring.
I've also done well with not buying "runners" per-say but buying a decent pair of striderites that can pass for either every day or dress up during the spring/fall.

We have a pair of rubber boots, a pair of see kair runs, stonz and some robeez. We do robeez under the stonz for winter.

DD was either barefoot or in socks or slippers most of the time (and still is!). So, she always has a pair of slippers (so far, these have been from HA). During the spring and summer months, she has one pair of sandals. During the fall and winter, she has a pair each of shoes and boots.

She wore soft soled Robeez or Pediped originals until she turned 3 this summer (in both shoe and boot form). At that point, her Robeez shoes simply wore out (after being worn for nearly 8 months). I replaced the Robeez with Keens. At the beginning of this summer I got her a pair of Salt Water sandals, as well. Her Keens still fit well for the fall. I haven't yet decided what to replace those with when they are outgrown.

I'm a bit of a shoe fiend so this would be my minimum for a kid that age, a pair of warm soft soled shoes (like the fur lined robeez or pedipeds) and a pair of stonz or molehill (cheaper version) to go over them for out in the snow and then maybe a pair of slippers/hanna moccasins/regular robeez for inside.

ds2 has 4 pairs of shoes atm (sandals, shoes, cowboy boots & rainboots). DS1 has one pair of ds1's old croc's... I know he's going to be in need of at least one pair of shoes this winter, and probably a pair of winter boots. But thats about it. I never bother with shoes/socks at all untill its actually cold (ie nov/dec-feb), otherwise I just let'm go barefoot when they're little (DS2 is still mostly barefoot even out and about) ... and to be perfectly honest ds2 went barefoot alot even midwinter last year. I just don't see the point of hassling with socks/shoes for the 5 mins between house/car and car/store.

Right now my little guy just wears robeez, and robeez boots outside. I'm going to wait and see how big his foot is when it is really wet and cold, and go from there. He is 10 months old, walks a lot, but hates shoes.

I am lucky enough to live in Florida, where winters are nice and mild. JJ goes barefoot most of the time. He does have 2 pairs of sandals. 1 Striderite pair he just outgrew... and 1 pair my ex's ex got him. I just put socks on with those for now. But he's been walking for 8 or so months now. So he's got it down really well. We put his shoes on for going to the park and when we go out now because I make fatboy walk. At 30odd lbs I can't keep carrying him. Lol

Last winter my DD pretty much always just wore her snow boots. Even if we were going to church or something and she was wearing a dress, we still put her in boots and then just took them off when we got there. We don't usually wear shoes inside.

I would think that at most you would need a pair of boots, some shoes, and maybe a pair of dress shoes if needed.

At that age, I think we were still doing soft-soled shoes, and we rotated between 2 pair. I had a pair of boots that were not as functional as I would have liked.

As soon as he was walking more, he rotated through 3 pair of shoes. Because his feet sweat so much, I liked the shoes to get a chance to dry out between wearings.

My plan was to buy one good pair of flexible soled, but still treaded tennis shoes. I figured she would also need a pair of boots and I was
Going to compromise a bit on flexibility to get a good tread and a cheap price. Luckily I found a pair of well treated flexible boots on clearance so we have those. Otherwise there were some at the evil empire I was going to grab.

She also has one pair of dress shoes. Not necessary, but I'm happy we have them for wearing frilly dresses On holidays.

Another shoe fiend here

My DS currently has 4 pairs. A pair of black sneakers from the Gap, grey New Balance sneaks, Beige/brown stride Rites, and a pair of Keen boots.

So much for not spending a lot of $ on shoes .

ETA: he's 2.

We have a pair of reg Robeez, a pair of fleece/fur lined Robeez boots, and his godmother bought him a pair of knit wool slippers w leather soles for home.

2 usually, mostly because I think it is healthier for the foot. Sometimes they get wet etc. But we live in a mild climate-- boots are for fashion. I try for very soft soles (robeez-like) until walking well, then somethy like pediped or See Kai Run until they outgrow the size range.

I thought I might be more into shoes with DS but given that I went out of my way to go to Target (which I boycott) for Robeez knock-offs I guess not. =S

We have padraigs for at home in colder weather, and a pair of robeez slippers for warmer weather (mostly to help keep socks on!).
This summer, she had two pairs of mary jane style shoes (one robeez and one pediped).
For now: The pediped mary janes still fit, so they're her dress up shoes. She also has a pair of pediped sneakers, a pair of rubber boots (she would live in these if I let her!) and a pair of molehill "boots" (they're the Stonz knock offs). So four pairs, including boots.
I'm a shoe minimalist too - I have Birks for summer, Blundstones and mukluks for winter, and a pair of clogs I got on sale at Hanna Anderssen for anything in between or requiring "dressy". I thought dd should only need one pair of shoes, and a pair of the molehill booties, but dressy shoes are totally impractical for the playground and stuff, and sneakers look ridiculous with the dresses she likes to wear 3/4 of the time! Until this season, we managed to get pretty much all of our shoes as hand me downs or at garage sales, or on clearance sales, and I don't think I realized how crazy expensive it is to keep a kid shod!
She'll be 2 at Christmas.
