We're past the toy stage, but some things I recall I disliked:
Loud toys with recorded sounds, engine noises, tinny songs etc. always bothered me, except for actual musical instruments. I think I found them more intrusive than other toys I didn't particularly like (eg. Barbies etc.).
Polly Pockets - all those darned little accessories that I only found by stepping on them in barefeet. Ouch!!

I'm Torn
I hate this truck. I hate that it's $100 for a block of really ugly plastic. Our 2.5 year old would love it though. I'm very torn.http://www.littletikes.com/toys/clas...kup-truck.aspx

Is he big for his age? I'd think most 2 1/2 yos would have trouble making it go and would just push it around from outside. Or worse yet, ask you to push him...
|
They never really wanted to make it go. They mostly liked to sit in it and pretend they were going somewhere. I would have REALLY hated it if I'd had to push it around.

I tolerate it. Barely. Because it was a gift from a very special friend, who really meant well. And because my kids love it. I've "won" on so many toy issues before, and I decided to let this one go. I figured they'd get tired of it really quickly, and I'd be able to put it away somewhere. No such luck. They've had it for 8 months, and they're still loving it.

Great thread ChetMC!
Well, my DD got one for her 3rd birthday. It sings "3 little fishes" - not bad really. But just to warn you - she will be 4 in a month, and it hasn't died yet.
This was gifted to us as well. Detest! That voice - creepy. It got lost almost instantly. It made DD cry. She thought it was the devil incarnate.
DS and DD got a Shrek donkey toy at McDonalds. Everytime you get near it, and sometimes when you are just walking in an adjacent room, it says very roughly "I don't know you." I hated it so much that I actually like it now.
When I go to pick up my DD in daycare, I often come in and when she sees me I say "I don't know you."

Currently it's a birthday card that sings "It's your day, it's your day, it's your birthday today" ad nauseam. My 10 month old LOVES it! I just don't have the heart to take it away. Of course I know it will die eventually.

This talking globe
. She still plays with it every week. We have a regular globe! It is silent!
Anything that makes noise bugs me, like fake phones or remote controls. She had a couple of those when she was little that she liked. The one noisy thing she didn't like was the steering wheel that shakes and makes noises like an engine and a remote door lock sound. A guy also yells Rev it up! or something like that. Totally made her cry.
I also do not like Littlest Pet Shop toys. They are so ugly and there are too many plastic pieces to "collect". DD has loved those for a few years and I don't see it ending soon.

Anything that is plastic and makes noise. Of course those are some of the favorites because they are from the grandparents, who do not respect our wishes to have non-battery operated toys
. Also, playmobiles mostly because they have thousands of itty bitty pieces that end up everywhere.
The most irritating toy that my little 4 year old loves currently is something I actually bought him. It is a little rubber sheep keychain that I bought without realizing it made a "sheep noise". The noise it makes sounds like a dying possessed crow. It is completely obnoxious, but he adores his "sheepy".

I once threw a fisher price learning table out the window of our house onto the lawn. It drove me totally mad. DS would play with it and cry, I would move him away and redirect, he would cry, I would hide it he would look for it, I would let him play with it amd he would cry. After days of this I snapped and actually tossed it out the window. The only reason it even came into the house was because it was a gift from a dear old auntie. My DH thought I had totally lost it when he got home and saw it out there. To date it is the only toy that ever made either of my kids cry, It for some reason just frustrated the heck out of him.

Playmobil. OMG that stuff drives me insane. Way too many tiny pieces!
I also can't stand Mr. Potato Head. I have no idea why. It never gets played with, but DS won't let me get rid of it. I actually got rid of a set we had because he never touched it, but then he convinced Grandma to get him an even bigger set that still doesn't get touched.

OMG the LeapPad table. I forgot about that. I hated the talking globe too. It's been a few years for those so I'd blocked the memory or something.
The more music it makes, the more i don't like it. I don't mind noise that kids make that sounds more random, it's the tinned songs I hate. Especially when they change the lyrics to include their characters or something.

DS's drum set. It's really, really loud! You can hear it outside with all of the windows and doors shut.
Thanks, DH.
