Enthusiastic eater now has no interest in food!

We started solids about a week before he turned 6 months. We do the purees in ice cube trays. He was always really enthusiastic about eating. I could barely scoop it to him fast enough and would lunge forward to eat and make little "mmm" sounds , and he was eating a good amount. (12 cubes/day)

But now, it's been about a week that he doesn't want anything to do with it. At first if he was watching DH in the kitchen, or something, he'd eat ...or if I let him help with the spoon. So then I tried letting him feed himself, so I chopped up something we were eating at dinner and he didn't even want to touch it. (I've tried that 3 times now) (which I find humorous, because if I were to drop something on the floor he'd race over to it and put it in his mouth in a heartbeat.)

Anyway, I have a feeling you are all going to say, "oh it's normal...just a phase...my kid barely eats any food." ...but I just don't know. I mean, he still is nursing like normal....maybe even a little bit more than normal...but going from 12 cubes/day to 2 doesn't seem right. Plus, he seems to not sleep as well when he doesn't eat.

Thoughts?

btw, he's 8 months now.

My daughter was a pretty good eater at first, too. And then, almost overnight, everything changed. I have no advice, it's really frustrating...isn't it? She will only consistently eat 4 things ... yogurt, cheese, bread, and tortilla chips. Just lovely! She used to eat all sorts of fruit and veggies. She will not budge and I try every day to get healthier things in her. I'm just trying not to press the issue too much and keep offering and hoping she'll eventually come back around to liking food. For now, she's a milkaholic, lol.

Is he teething? DS1 would go on a solids "strike" anytime he was getting new teeth in. All he would eat was avocado, applesauce and (after 9 months) yogurt.

He also liked really cold food like frozen sweet peas, frozen blueberries (cut in half if they were too big).

I know this may be messy but my kids are always more interested in food if it is on my plate. Can you hold him and feed him off of your plate? He also may be ready for more than just purees. Can you try some organic black beans warmed with a little shredded cheddar and then mashed up with a fork. That has always been a crowd pleaser over here. Give him something with a heftier consistency and maybe he will like that. You'd be surprised how good they are at mashing soft foods with there gums.
