MSG in Pregnancy

I cannot get enough of veggies in ranch dressing. I cannot stop eating anything crunchy, I love it!

I was just reading the whole egg thing - and realized, I'm fine - nothing "raw" in ranch dressing so it's safe but the MSG?

there's msg in your dressing?? According to everything I've read, msg is bad for you regardless if you're pregnant or not. So why eat it? I'd look for a dressing next time you are in the store for one that doesn't have it. There are more and more coming out that do not add it. But I wouldn't stress over it too much. Just make the small changes as they come.

Funny, I was just looking for a seasoning recipe for Ranch Dressing b/c my husband has a pretty nasty MSG reaction.

After reading about MSG I am glad we have pretty much cut it out of our diets.

I would cut out all the MSG you possibly can.

Here's the link: All Recipes Dry Ranch Style Seasoning

Google for more recipes. I'm going to be trying some myself!

Its hidden valley! Yuck!

um...it's not good for you, but it won't hurt anything. My daughter has a soy allergy and she reacts to it. Also autolyzed yeast extract, and I think torula yeast. I never noticed an issue with myself, but I cut it out anyway. But your baby will be fine.

I make a ranch-like dressing with sour cream, onion powder, and salt. Really fast and easy. I just mix it right in the sour cream tub and store it in it.

I try hard to stay away from MSG as much as possible because it is a neurotoxin and is just plain bad for you, but don't stress over it too much because it's in EVERYTHING and hard to avoid completely. It's labeled as "yeast extract", "hydrolized"anything and goes under many other aliases. It's addictive like sugar or caffeine, and I just don't like it. Hidden valley is also my favorite ranch, and I usually can't stop eating it when it's around me, which is why I don't buy it. I make my own with sour cream and spices if I'm really craving ranch.

it is SO EASY to make your own ranch dressing. maybe go that route? MSG gives me migraines so I stay away from it all the time.

I don't think MSG is great and generally try to avoid it, but I don't think it's TERRIBLE. I had a friend who lived in China and she said if it was really toxic, everyone over there wouldn't be having healthy babies--and for the most part, they are.

I wouldn't worry. I do whatever I need to do to eat veggies. I think they probably outweigh the MSG bad-ness. Unless you're drinking the HVR.
