Does this mean baby isn't head down?

I'm having some contractions but I'm not feeling pressure in my cervix..I'm feeling is out to the sides like near my hips...if that makes sense.
If the babies head was engaged properly I would feel more cervical pressure right?

Not necessarily. There are lots of reasons for feeling what you're feeling, contraction-wise. Are there other reasons besides that, which make you feel baby is not head down?

I never felt contractions at my cervix, braxton-hicks or in labor. even after DD was head-down and had descended. everyone feels contractions differently.

No that's it. I'm not really worried about if he's head down..more worried that he's not positioned well. My son was "cockeyed" and had a nuchal arm but I still felt tons of cervical/pelvic pressure with him so I guess that's why I'm paranoid.

Ah--that's probably it. Well, try not to worry, it really won't help (spoken by a worrier with lots of experience in how little worrying helps ) When you find yourself worrying that baby won't be positioned 'right' for birth, try to change the pattern by first, taking some nice relaxing breaths, and by telling your son to tuck his chin. Visualize him in perfect position...and relax, relax, relax. The more relaxed you are in body, the easier it will be for your bubs to move around and get well-positioned; the more relaxed you are in mind, the more relaxed and happy baby will be
