Can someone refresh my memory on MTHFR?

Hi,
It's been a while since I've been here, & we just got some DNA results back on DS1 (23andme). For the MTHFR C677T snp, he is AA. DH and I are both heterozygous, so is AA the "bad" combination that means that he can't process folate?

Thanks.

Hmmmm....not sure about the AA part. I think Both hetero and homozygeous have difficulty processing folate. I'm homozygous for the gene mutation and I cannot process folate well. I'm not sure what the AA means to be honest with you.

If you dig up the guess your genetics thread, I listed a bunch of the 23andme id's for the yasko snps. Some of the 23andme stuff is 'upside-down' so that AA means TT (they're reading the opposing nucleotides).

So yeah, it sounds like your son will have a very hard time processing folate. Don't forget to check for A1298C as well, some of us lucky ones are hetero for both
