Learning French for ballet?

I dragged my pregnant heiney to my daughter's ballet class last night, and they're learning a lot of French words. Are there any books, games, etc out there to help her learn "ballet French"?

I think she will likely pick up the words as she goes. It isn't something I would super sweat about. After one does plié so many times one doesn't really forget the word as easily as when one reads it. YKWIM?

I did search a bit and found this site, it seems to be thorough.

You can also find videos of a dancer performing a particular step on youtube.

They're actually learning the 12 (??) body positions and were promised homemade ice cream cake if they did, LOL!, so she wanted to study up a little outside of class to help her class. Thanks for the link!

I once took a ballet class that was a bit too hard for me and only managed it because I was familiar with French.

On topic, I think physical repetition would be the way to go. You use a chart or something and call out the position and she goes into it, then you do a really exaggerated and obvious version of a position and she names it.

In fact, teaching you the different positions in order to place the game would really help her get them down.

Unfortunately, I am in no position to do ballet right now, LOL! Gravity has ceased to be my friend. I wish there was a game or a video or flashcards or something that did just what you're describing.

It will come naturally to her. You don't have to brush up on French to be a ballerina (unless you really want to). I was a ballerina for many years and learned naturally during classes.

If you have Netflix, there are a ton of instructional ballet videos on there. I haven't looked at any of them, but I bet there's one on there. Or maybe YouTube?

And 12 positions? I thought there were only 8....

Well, if you can find pictures online, you could print them out. Have your dd help you find them so you're sure that the picture is associated with the right term in her head. Then you can have a mix of picture and word sheets (with the answers on the back for you ) and hold them up for her.

Here's a pretty good link (though it has only 8, I'm not sure what the other 4 are??)
