Please help - 4 month old refuses to nurse

I have 4 month old twins who have been breastfed and then given a 40 ml supplement of ebm in a bottle (slow-flow nipple) since birth. Things were going great until N (who was always the weaker nurser) began SCREAMING at the sight of my breast. This happened incredibly suddenly and now she will nurse very little, and only for any length of time first thing in the morning and before bed. I am on day one of taking away the bottle, because I believe she has developed a preference for its faster flow. I am so worried about her...I know she must be so hungry because she has not nursed well all day, but I am afraid if I give her the bottle she will stop nursing altogether. I SO do not want this to be the end. I have a good supply (though it has been low today, I don't know if it's because of stress, or her lack of nursing, or what). My usual routine was nurse both babies, offer a bottle of ebm, and then pump. I still need to pump (especially if N is not nursing), but I'm afraid when she does want to nurse I will have just pumped and then she won't get enough.
I don't know what to do!! I feel utterly rejected and despondent at the idea that this could be the end of breastfeeding her.
Please help!!

I'm so sorry you are going through this. Don't feel rejected--it may be something you wouldn't even think of. Search "nursing strike" for some possible causes and tips to get her back on. The one thing I've heard that works for many moms and babies is to nurse when the baby is asleep. The baby is not thinking of whatever association that bothered him or her when nursing (can sometimes even be having heard a loud noise while nursing) and this can ease her back on to the breast. If you really need to offer milk in some other container, a baby this age can be offered a cup.

Go to llli.org and look up nursing strike in the archives. You will find some other mothers' stories about going through this and that is often helpful.
