it's weleda calendula I use when necessary, and that's what's clogged up my dipes but it clears up anything after one application.

The main issue with barrier creams and cloth diapers is that often the cream won't wash off the diaper-- so you get a waterproof layer on your diapers. What'll happen is that moisture won't absorb into the diaper, so you'll get leaks. Plus, some of those creams have fish oils in them, which will stink abominably after awhile.

My MIL put Destitin on DD1 with Fuzzi Bunz. It wasn't the end of the world, though, or the end of the diapers-- dish soap (like Dawn, for instance) will wash the diaper rash cream off the diaper. You do need some elbow grease, though-- I had to scrub mine with a toothbrush to get it clean.

The best way to prevent diaper rash is to change frequently, wash baby's diaper area in plain warm water, and give baby's bum plenty of time to air.

I use Calmoseptine whenever DS's bum starts to look to red. The huge packet of info I got from GMD recommended it for cds if you had to use something as well as my mw. You do have to special order it from your pharmacy. Its not an rx, that's just the way it works, I guess. Personally, I've never had any problems with it on my prefolds, but it hasn't washed out of my fleecey Happy Heiney very well.

Unless your kiddo has a sensitive bum, I don't see any reason to use cream preventatively. Kinda makes me think of blowing my nose even though I don't need to. Just because I will at some point doesn't mean I need to now!!

yep, another recommendation for cj's butter. it's awesome stuff and totally cd safe. i've used it on my daughter with our cloth diapers and it works amazingly well on even my super super sensitive skin. i swear, we should buy cj's butter by the gallon. i think my family keeps her in business singlehandedly.
