Dolls for boys??

My 21mo has a stroller that he LOVES to push, and we usually put a teddy bear in it. For x-mas, or his b-day I'd like to get him a doll. Don't bash me for hating on dolls, but I seriously CANNOT STAND the ruffly girl dolls.

I want to get him a BOY baby doll with a cute little outfit. I don't have much money, so I can't afford a waldorf, and my price range is really more like $20-$30.

Who else got their boy a doll, and which one??? I seriously can't find ANY that I like!

Wyatt has 2 dolls. One is a mini doll that is a boy in a blue striped outfit, but only about 6 inches tall. That doll was about $5 at Target. Then he has a full sized baby doll that is a girl, and we bought it at Target for $16. She came with a pacifier, which is why we bought her, because my son loves his pacifier, so he'll give the pacifier to baby doll and we think that's adorable. She does have a pink dress and matching hat/booties, but she's not really all that frilly. But I'm cheap and just bought what was there

Thanks! I really just want a baby doll though - I'm not opposed to plastics or anything, I just don't want to buy a doll wearing ruffles and then have to buy a cute boy outfit. I hate ruffles.

Forum jumping to say that I just ordered DS his first "baby" for Christmas. We got him a snugglebug from ManhattanToys.

What about something like this?

My 2 yo was given a baby doll from Walmart. He is dressed in a blue outfit, and has a plastic head/hands/feet with a cloth body. While it isn't something I would have picked for him, he loves that doll. He's even taken a blanket to wrap him up and 'tucks him in' on top of the toy basket after we clean up any other toys.

I would love to be able to afford a couple Waldorf dolls, but right now it's not in the cards.

I got this Corolle for DS1 back in April. It was expensive but the quality is amazing, and I am NOT a doll person. I think the smaller one would be excellent as well.
I think I might get a Rosy Cheeks for DS2. It's adorable, and better suited for a baby since it's all soft.
LOL - I am rediscovering my childhood passion for plushies now that I have kids. If something is soft, I (I mean, my kids) have to have it. LOL

DS has a Paul doll from Under the Nile. I love it and it's organic too!

I wanted a doll for my son and I was being really picky about it. No plastic, no bottle, not made in china. I finally settled on one made in china because Kathy Kruse dolls were about the only one's that fit the bill but I couldn't bring myself to spend $50+ on a doll he might not play with. I also looked at the paul doll by under the nile but at the time I couldn't find it in stock anywhere. Here is the one I ended up with:

He mostly throws it around and occasionally asks me to nurse it I should get him a stroller, he would probably LOVE that.

I've made the boys several waldorf dolls, which they do like, but honestly, the $7 plastic headed "pink baby" from TJ Maxx is the favorite. We called it pink baby b/c it has a pink sleeper & hat, but he is most definately a boy. He's often referred to as either baby Liam or Baby Gavin, the 2 babies we know.

I know when trying to choose a waldorf pattern, I had an email exchange with Joy from Joys Waldorf, and she directed me towards a 10" doll for a child aged 2, and clothes, she said, didn't really matter b/c he would spend most of his time nekkie until DS reached about 4. I can say this is categorically absolutely 100% true. We're just short of our 4th bday, and the babies are just now getting their clothes back!

YES! I was SHOCKED at how big a hit it was, but he pushes it around so much! We do have to put it away sometimes so it doesn't get thrown (due to frustration, etc), but he LOVES it! And he LOVES pushing his teddy bear to the park!

We've got that doll too. It's great.

Can you sew at all? If so, I'd just get whatever doll (baby dolls are nice ) and make new clothes for it. The baby dolls tend to just be in jammies (salmon pink ) and you could just use those as a pattern to make a set of pajamas in reasonable colors.

I'd expect the dolls to spend 90% of their lives totally naked though.

Re: cheap plastic dolls. Even though we have the lovely part plastic Corolle, DS1 truly prefers his $10 Target bath baby (that we never get wet). The Corolle is more of a gentle-time toy, we used it to prep him for DS2 since it has a soft body and feels more like a real , no head control newborn. He is sweet to it, but doesn't play. I guess we overkilled and maybe he feels like he has to be careful and it's no fun. The plastic doll sees more action.

I have heard from many many mamas that despite our preferences, the LOs like plastic babies, and it's so true.

I just got the rosy cheek blond boy doll for DS to "prepare" him for the birth of his sister (he's 15 months, I doubt he's understanding much...)
He LOVED the doll right away, he's always hugging and cuddling... and walking around holding it by the diaper hehehe

I just wanted to say my daughter LOVES her Cololle doll (it smells like vanilla!). My son has a few inexpensive dolls from target and such that are dressed in boyish outfits. He also likes to push his basketball around in the stroller!

My daycare boys love those hard bath dolls too! They never pick the soft dolls, only the hard ones with the movable arms and legs. The bathtubs that came with it are long gone, but that part was a hit while it lasted too.

For us, clothes don't matter much because babies are always naked. We do have baby stella which is the same as the rosy cheeks dolls and I like her.
