I am tired of my current large national bank. I'm debating whether to switch to a local credit union or go to online checking.
I've heard good things about INGdirect and Charles Schwab. Does anyone use either of these?
From what I can tell, ING lets you overdraw your account and just pay interest on the amount you overdrew. That is a huge selling point for me, because I don't like keeping lots of cash in a checking account, and I don't like worrying about overdrawing if I'm off by a dollar or two. (AND I don't like carefully balancing accounts to the penny
) BUT ING doesn't use traditional checks, and I do need to write one or two checks every month. And in my town, they don't have tons of ATMs.
Schwab lets you get cash for free from any ATM (they reimburse ATM fees charged by other banks) and they offer free checks. I can't tell from their website how their overdraft protection works exactly. Also, you have to open a brokerage acct to get a checking acct.
Are there others that I'm overlooking? Has anyone had a great/not so great experience with online checking?
