This is an excellent book. I love it. It's great for dads, but moms will also benefit.

How did the speech eval go?

On the waking up inconsolable thing--for my son this is was low blood sugar. He would actually be an emotional mess and full on melt down when he woke and he refused everything including food. But if we could get something in him (a syringe of juice most often) he was better very quickly. We actually ended up testing his blood sugar in those states. He was always in the same lowish range (60ish I believe). A person with diabetes told me that even as an adult certain ranges for her made her not herself at all and she felt horrible. It wasn't her lowest lows either. Anyway, for my kid the nap issues were blood sugar so worth trying to get something in him and see if it helps.

Being unaware of peers can be seen on the spectrum, yes. My son was pretty unaware unless kids were running around or screaming or something like that which engaged him. He's still relatively unaware but making progress.

DS1 had his evaluation for the public school today. It was kind of intense, at least for me. A speech therapist, a special education teacher and an occupational therapist all surrounded DS1 in my living room. I had to fill out paper work for one and answer dozens of questions for the other two. It almost feels redundant now, all the questions I'm answering are the same. They were here for about an hour and a half and DS1 got bored half way through...so he spent time drawing on a big pad of paper while we talked. DS2 attempted to get in the middle of the action as DS1 was drawing and/or playing. This didn't go over well for DS1, who would push, roll on or hit DS2. This is something we're going to have to work on.
As usual he through a fit after everyone was gone but thankfully he napped really well after he was done being upset.

I guess we'll know more later...we have another appointment set up to find out if he's eligible for services.

DH got home around 4 and I was in bed napping by 6...SO TIRED!

Just thought I'd stop by and give you a small update.
I called the child development clinic to schedule the ADOS. It'll be 7-8 weeks before it can be scheduled because the tester is out of the office on med. leave. The testing will be scheduled for sometime in Jan/Feb.
