Thought I'd watch some videos - did a Google search for "homebirth videos" - clicked one of the top links, it's to the "My Best Birth" site which I know is the people who did the BoBB movie.
Um, yeah, it's kinda exactly how I DON'T want my HB to go!
They're COUNTING telling her to push a minimum amount, for crying out loud! & there are TWO people down at her perinium with their hands all over it the entire video. A third person seems to pour more olive oil, so I understand that & the support can help reduce the risk of tearing, but I also thought lots of 'messing around' down there (like vagina "wrenching") can cause inflammation & increase the risk of tears.
Finally, they make comments about "don't let that baby go back in." (Baby is crowning & the head emerges a bit more with a push, just to slip back in again.) WTF???? I mean, WTF?? That is a totally NORMAL thing -a normal part of birthing the head for it to slip back in again! There's no mention of baby being in distress & NEEDING to be born immediately, so the whole thing really baffles me.
Basically, it seems like it should have been titled, "Typical American birth, just non-typical location."
Not to "bash" someone's birth, it's just that it was upsetting & distressing for me to watch & upsets me even more that it's a top link on the site of a very pro-NCB, pro-HB group. I'm confused. Really confused.
