nak-sorry so long...thx for reading & any suggestions!
we are sleeping on the most expensive damn mattress & i think it's slowly killing me. 3.5 yrs ago we walked into a sleepy's (didn't know any better at the time) & got talked into laying on a bed for a "sleep test". we dropped a fortune on a KING's DOWN brand bed & have never been happy with it. we tried twice to return it with the warranty but it didn't meet their criteria either time.
i am a side sleeper & since having both dd's, am also 40 lbs heavier-with a bunch of weight around the middle. i know i need to work on that as well as getting my core back in shape but i wake up in so much pain & with very little consecutive sleep (dd1 nursed all night till we moved her out at 2 & dd2 is following the same pattern) i haven't had the wits about me to exercise consistently for long. before cosleeping, besides being thinner & in better shape, i also slept with a body piilow supporting me & obv i can't with the baby next to me. i still stick a pillow between my knees though.
right now, i can't turn my head to the left due to neck/shoulder pain & both upper back/right below the shoulder blade areas feel like someone hit me with a truck. i have also been completely unable to sleep on my right side at all because i wake up feeling like i have broken ribs on that side after a short time.
6 yrs ago i had herniated disc clean up surgery (lower back) & have bouts of lower back/sciatic issues but the upper back stuff is what is killing me right now. i'll also be hitting the chiropractor next week for the 1st time since january when i was pregnant.
we really can't afford it but if it meant less pain & more sleep, i am willing to sacrifice in other areas to get something new. we cosleep & our 3 yo ends up back in bed with us in the middle of the night most nights so we need to stick with a king size too.
i am interested in learning more about the less toxic versions of the memory foam mattresses? would this be considered latex? (and it sounds like there are certain types to look for?) is memory foam a good option for side sleepers? what about back sleepers? (DH) other threads indicated their babies didn't actually make any dent & were safe. any other input on this? dd2 is already almost 9 mos but we would like to try for 1 more baby next year.
what else should i be looking at in terms of less toxic & best choice for side sleeping/co sleeping & heavier mama (for now)?
