letting clean diapers sit in washer overnight?

As I type this my clean, wet diapers are sitting in my washing machine downstairs. And I am too lazy to go down there and put them in the dryer. I'll do it in the morning. I find myself doing this often - wash them after DD is in bed and then dry them in the morning. Am I causing my diapers any harm by doing this?

Seriously?

When DS was a baby, there was never a night that a load of laundry - diapers, sheets, towels, baby clothing, adult clothing, whatever - didn't sit wet in the washer overnight. Or 2 nights, or sometimes 3. (after 3 days and nights, I'd probably run it through another rinse cycle with some vinegar)

What kind of diapers do you have? I do this all the time with my prefolds, but I have heard of folks having issues when doing it with synthetic AIOs.

I start to get mildew if I leave something in the washer overnight, if it happens I always have to run it through a rinse cycle. (I can tell by the way it smells)

I thought I'd ask since diapers are so weird about everything else. It is mostly prefolds, some AI2 inserts and covers.

I just smell the laundry and go by that. I find that when I DO empty the washer, if I leave the door open so it can dry better, laundry doesn't start to smell as quickly (if I close it all the time, sometimes laundry can't make it through the night but if I leave the door open when not in use, I can go a couple days depending on the load)

I sniff the washer in the morning. If it smells funky, it gets re-rinsed. If it smells REALLY funky, I figure it wasn't clean to begin with and needs a re-wash.

In really warm weather, sometimes they get funky. If they smell funky, I rewash. Otherwise? Whatever. Seriously, for a long time I had three in diapers, and they often sat in the washer much longer than overnight.

I do it all the time. I just re-rinse in the morning before throwing them in the dryer.

I Do It

I have done it with diapers lots of times. Often too though, I will set the timer on the washer to run so it finishes in the morning when we're getting up.

I find that diapers don't get skunky if they sit in the washer overnight. Other laundry, like jeans, will though.

I did it on accident once and had to run a cold rinse in the morning because it started smelling dingy/mildew-y. I wouldn't do it intentionally but that's just me. :0)

It would get smelly with my previous detergent. But with Tide powder I can do it (also it is winter now, cold in the laundry room).

I don't do it on purpose. When I need to wash late at night, I use the timer, so it is done when I get up.
