Car Seat Warmth---Lamby, is this safe?

I was on a different forum asking about using a Lamby to line DD and new babe's car seats for extra warmth. I was told that this was not safe and to visit this forum.

So here is what I am looking at: https://www.snugglewool.com/shop/cat...hp?category=16

I am not sure how this differs from the zip in blankets...which I gather are safe, but hey...I might be misinformed about that as well.

Would love feedback and links. I apparently need to read up and be better informed.

Just a loving mama trying to keep her kids safe and snuggly at the same time. TIA!

The zip in blankets are not safe/recommended, and unfortunately, neither is this one. The rule is that nothing should go between baby and car seat. Anything that adds a layer of padding behind the baby has a risk of compression in a crash. Generally a thin fleece is the maximum allowed. Instead of zip in blankets, we usually recommend the shower-cap style covers or a blanket over baby, after baby is snuggly harnessed. Best of luck with the new baby and finding something that works well and safely!

Nope, not safe at all.

You dont want anything that goes between baby and the seat or harness and the baby. Over the top of everything is fine, like the 'shower cap' style covers, carseat ponchos, coat on backwards, covers that go over the handle and hang down, blankets etc.

Except you are not supposed to drive with the handle up, so a cover that goes over the handle wouldn't help in the car.

Actually, most infant seats allow you to leave the handle up to drive these days. But always consult your manual!

I stand corrected. The manual for mine said that it was unsafe to do so. Not that that makes me an expert or anything.

Yep, most you can drive with the handle up, although even if the seat allows it, I tend to recommend not to (b/c they can break and land on baby, people are more likely to hang those heavy plastic toys to them, and b/c its harder to access baby in an emergency)

However, those blanket cover things that go over the handle are great for people who use the infant carseat as a carrier, and while in the car, you can take it off quickly and use it as a blankie.

I'm not normally in this thread but the Graco Snugride can be used with the handle in the fully upright carry position or behind the carseat (just NOT in one of the inbetween positions above the baby). I looked this up earlier when DH and I couldn't agree whether or not it was safe. For the Graco Snugride it is.
