American Adoptions Agency?

Has anyone used this agency? It is so difficult to find reviews on agencies. I've been on adoption.com, but they only allow discussion of agencies via pm and I haven't received any feedback. I sent off for an information packet from them and I'm having mixed feelings. FWIW- I live somewhat close to this agency so that is part of the appeal for me.

Hi-I'm not sure if no one has heard of /used this agency or if folks don't feel comfortable posting info on the open forum. Sorry this is so frustrating for you!

I remember looking into them, but ultimately deciding that for us there were too many unknows involved with them since you did not have a say in which states you would be open to working in and adoption laws vary so much between states. For us it would be hard to budget unknown travel and stay away from home like that. Sorry I couldn't be of more help!

They may have been one we looked into but I can't remember. We weren't comfortable with any until we found a great local nonprofit Christian agency that so far we love. We live in Arizona. Some of the reasons we love it is that it has a sliding flat fee scale according to your income and doesn't matter at all what race the baby you are adopting turns out to be (I was appalled by all the agencies that have increasing fees by race), we know a family that adopted twice through them and had lots of good things to say, they have excellent trainings where adoptees, adoptive parents, birthparents and pregancy terogen specialists come in to talk with potential adoptive families, they really push for the birthparents to take a full week or more before signing the papers, they make sure you are really open to an open adoption if that ends up being what the birthparents want, they are very knowledgable, and also you aren't "out" any money if the match doesn't work out. Good luck!

I know it seems nice to use an agency that is close, but there is no reason to.
