Maternity skirts!

I am having a heck of a time so far finding affordable skirts. The thrift shops mostly have jeans/pants, Old Navy has short skirts and I am looking for them to hit me below the knee. Cotton is my preference.

I can make due with larger skirts for now, but that's not going to get me all the way through.

Any leads?

My one bigger (like over $20) maternity purchase was for a denim skirt. I bought it from the gap and practically lived in it throughout my pregnancy. During postpartum time, I still liked to wear it because the wider elastic waistband helped to "hold in" my still jiggly stomach.

While the cost is higher, they frequently have 25% off coupon codes, and I got a ton of wear out of this item.

Aside from that purchase, I just wore my stretchier pre-pregnancy skirts throughout my pregnancy. (Granted, I didn't gain a ton of weight and I carried pretty small.) Anyway, I highly recommend Patagonia's Morning Glory skirt. I just wore the waistband under my belly. It did begin to get a little tight toward the end, though. I also have the Patagonia Kamala skirt and I think it would work well during pregnancy.

I also have this skirt. It worked well for me during pregnancy, but the price is high and the quality is low. (I hate admitting that, because I prefer to support Etsy sellers...)

I fantasized about buying myself one of these skirts during my pregnancy.

I know these ideas are more expensive, BUT they will work well far beyond your pregnancy. Personally, I'd much rather shell out more money for a skirt that will be a favorite for years (like the Patagonia skirts) rather than some of the cheapie maternity things that I bought from Old Navy and will never wear again (except perhaps during a future pregnancy).

I love skirts and it is pretty much the only thing I wear, but now that it is so cold I haven't been wearing any. I actually picked up a bunch from thrift stores here over the summer. You can also look for nonmaternity skirts and w/ even a needle and thread you can add a panel to many skirts. I have done this w/ jeans previously. I am thinking of getting leggings so I can still wear my skirts, but I am not sure I would be warm enough. I run very cold, it is really hard now that it is cold outside. I love the denim gap one above. I have been planning on buying that one. I have a lot of dresses as well. I wear those to Church, but maybe w/ leggings I could wear them as well. I am much more comfortable in skirts and dresses. I love the skirts in the last in the last link. I have to have one of those!

I wear regular skirts under my belly.

Here's what I got: http://www.motherhood.com/Product.as...tegory_Id=9996

Love the secret fit belly - SOooo comfortable! The length is good and I've tried it on with many different shirts - plus I'll be wearing tallish boots with it this winter.

I don't know if you are a sewer or not- but I made my own skirts. All I needed was a sewing machine, thread, old bed sheets or pretty cotton fabric and elastic waist bands. Pretty dirt cheap to make- here is a link to a blogger who inspired me.
I have absolutely no sewing training at all, and found this really very easy to do- plus great way to get rid of old funky bedsheets!

what is great about it is you can have more than enough fabric and the skirt will grow with you!

Another option is a bellaband for your regular skirts. I'm 23 weeks and I'm wearing regular bottoms with my band. Granted, my skirt is unbuttoned and unzipped and is 3" apart, but you cannot tell with the band. it!

I've been loving Enwrapture Vintage skirts as maternity skirts. They work well tied either above or below the belly (I found above worked better early on, and below is working better now that I'm 7+ months) and they're gorgeous. Silk and polyester, though, not cotton. They're pricey at full retail, but you can pick them up for $10 or so if someone's running a co-op order. I have at least a dozen in all different colors and prints.

Lots of great ideas and leads, thank you! Keep them

i get you. it seems like all maternity "bottoms" are either pants or mini-skirts (are these flattering on anybody???? they don't even look good on the models that are wearing them?!?)

anyway, i stock up in the summer on "cover-ups." you know, they have the smocked elastic top that is supposed to be worn at boob-height. well, i wear them at the waist and they make great skirts and never make you feel fat because they always fit.

oh and coldwater creek or soft surroundings have alot of skirts with elastic waists. it's not super easy to find something that isn't styled for your grandmother AND on sale but it's worth checking.

Another "if you sew" option...

I designed this skirt and made a tutorial. It's one of the cutest skirts I've ever made and it's SO unbelievably comfortable that I'm making them for ALL my sisters/inlaws, etc. and have already made 4 for myself this pregnancy. It takes me a hour start to finish.

I forgot I made two at the end of my last pregnancy when nothing, nothing fit b/c I had gained over 50lbs.

*blinkblinkblink* That is so brilliant!! I know what I'm wearing to church today!

I own the Athleta Bodega skirt which I think will last through pregnancy -- it is elastic waist, and very comfortable.

I completely agree with posters about buying non-maternity pieces

This summer I wore these (except from Lands end but they look the same).

They are on sale now for $9.99 and while they are NOT maternity they certainly fit/look like it.

A friend of mine wore wraparound skirts through pregnancy and post-partum they were reversable and totally awesome !
