how to get pee out of matress ??

Our 10 yr old dd was having a dream that she was peeing on the toilet and woke up peeing the bed this morning.

Do we need to throw the matress out or is it possible to get that out?
I washed it with hot, soapy water but it still stinks. Any tricks?

Maybe try one of the solutions that people use on pet stains? It's supposed to change the PH so that it doesn't stink. I have head leaving the mattress in the sun helps, too.

I wonder what's in it that changes the ph balance so it makes it not stinky. I live in Canada so to order something is way more money.

I've always used vinegar on urine stains. Get a rag dripping wet with straight white vinegar and lay it over the stain, then put a folded towel and a heavy book (or whatever) on top and leave it for an hour or so, then take everything off and let it air dry for a few hours. It's always worked for me.

ETA: Or this link says to use baking soda instead.

I use white vinegar, it seems to get the smell out quite well--but give it time to dry completely, while it's still drying, you'll get the lovely double aroma of urine AND vinegar.

wow it actually seems to be working. I put viniger in the soapy water.

Glad the vinegar worked for you. The few times my dd has had a diaper leak in our bed I have scrubbed the spot with soapy water and blotted up the excess liquid. Then I put baking soda all over the wet spot, and let it absorb all the remaining moisture. Once the baking soda is completely dry after a few hours I vacuum it up, and it never smells.

Ok I'll go do the baking soda. thanks.
We put the matress up and turned the little heater on facing it. It gets pretty hot in that room. Well we left for awhile and came back and found the poor dog was trapped in there. oops.
He was a hot dog when we got back.
(we took him for a nice walk in the rain to cool him off.)

I use the enzyme product "Nature's Miracle" for this.

We use one of those enzymatic cleaners sold to deal with pet stains. I'm sorry I can't remember what it's called. I bought it at a pet store.

Im glad the vinegar worked. Is it really bad that my first thought was to take it outside, lean it against the house, and pressure wash it?

Glad to hear the vinegar worked.

For future reference, we get our pet stain remover (good for pee, poop and vomit) from CanadianTire, found with the other cleaning products.

BioKleen Bac-Out is a miracle product for the really nasty stuff. My 2 female cats started peeing all over my house when I got pregnant. The even peed on a couch - let me tell you, that was awful. The Bac-out got the smell out, even after other products failed to. I use it on kid pee too - and kid pee is far less stinky than angry cat marking.

I have used baking soda!

Another BacOut user here. I keep it (diluted) in a spray bottle and spray it anywhere that has a little pee on it. I spray liberally, and let it air out for 12+ hrs.

DS is trained, but sometimes pees through his pull-up at night. Or he'll overshoot the potty and get some on the wall/woodwork.

Well we had to take some drastic measures to clean a nice mattress we had...

The kids had a queen sized pillow top mattress that they shared for awhile. We kept buying mattress covers and they kept destroying them (literally tearing them apart for no apparent reason other than boys will be boys) and inevitably wetting the bed. Well no amount of spraying our washing were helping. So Mr. Fix it Hubby and BIL took the good ole power washer and some bleach and water and sprayed the ever loving snot out of the mattress. Living in florida in the middle of a field they set the mattress in the sun for a day on one side and a day on its other side and now its like a completely new mattress.

Its now our bed and you can't even tell how it used to be :P

Again thats only if you need a DRASTIC measure to get one clean. Mattresses are expensive $$!

We always have success with vinegar.  Glad to know that a power washer and a hot day will work too.
