A western midwife came there and taught the midwives to clamp and the clamped cords had more infections than the burned cords! My partner and I are planning to do it as well :) The midwife I worked with performed the burning along with a ritual and prayer, so beautiful.

So happy you like my cord burning blog!!!  It's so easy to do and IMO the cleanest/safest way to "cut" the cord if you want to cut it at all.  I just was in B.... urma and taught a group of medics how to do it and how to teach the traditional birth attendants how to do it since they were using dirty tools or bamboo sticks to sever the cord.

Let me know if you have any questions about it :)

For sure! Amazing. Where else in the U.S. is it done?

We have that Berenstain Bears book---I had it as a kid and now I love reading it to my daughter (especially because her bed will become the baby's eventually). This time around reading it I kept thinking, "Of COURSE Mama Bear has a homebirth!"

I am really curious about the cord burning. I'll have to check into that.
