hemorrhoids..

i've had pneumonia for weeks, and all that coughing has made the hemorrhoids appear earlier than expected

i'm REALLY uncomfortable here and don't know what's ok, and what works, for pregnancy hemorrhoids. is anusol or preparation H safe? effective? what else can i do for relief? i'm getting coughing fits every couple hours, minimum, and even my neck veins start popping out.. it ain't pretty.

There are lots of OTC and natural things you can try-- witch hazel pads, butcher's broom, bilberry-- you can check out the dosages. I've heard of shoving garlic up there, but there's not enough money in the world to make me try that. I am a HUGE fan of Earth Mama Angel Baby's Mama Bottom Balm.

It might sound crazy, but a bag of frozen peas wrapped in a towel makes a great ice pack. Just be sure to toss it when you're finished.

BUT, I'll be honest. This is my fifth time around the block with nasty rhoids. I've ended up in the ER with a new baby because they were so bad and I've also ended up having them cut with no anesthesia. So when they cropped up this time around, I got a presecription for ProctoFoam. For me, getting rid of them ASAP was absolutely worth it.

Good luck-- I know how horrible it can be.

I second the EarthmamaAngelbaby Mama Bottom Balm. That pretty much takes care of it for me, especially nice if you keep the jar in the fridge.

Hey, big hugs.... roids are THE WORST!

My midwife recommends making a sliced/shredded potato pack for your bum... or slices to insert. I dunno.... I told her I'd try it if the Earth mama balm didn't work; then I just used that like crazy! Sometimes I wish my mw would just give me a cure that didn't involve me using something out of the garden, but that's just me being lazy, lol! Her cures usually work.

I have had them so bad -with dd #1 I went to the ER because one ruptured, and with DD #2, I had to go in when I was like 20 weeks and have one removed in the ER, never will I do that again, but the pain was so bad I had to.

You need to get the swelling down ASAP because if you damage a swollen one, it can clot (thrombose) and that is the worst pain, both having and letting it go on it's own or removing it.

I used ice packs, and witch hazel pads that were kept in the fridge. And yes you can take prescription creams - Anusol is fine, and prescriptions can be written for it. I used Earth Mama stuff but mine were so bad it didn't help.

oh and do NOT ever sit on a hard chair - use a birth ball or soft chair as much as possible. I flared them back up sitting in an ICAN meeting for 2 hours last week.

oh man.. i'm 28 weeks tomorrow, it's like i have a grape-sized testicle back there or something. i can't see it well obviously (good luck twisting my pregnant body around to see in a mirror) but the pain is excruciating.. not just the hemorrhoid(s) but the cramping from the diarrhea i've had every 15-30 minutes all day.

i've done anusol suppository, anusol ointment, tucks pads (contains witch hazel.. it stung like a bitch), cold packs, warm sitz baths, cold sitz baths.. it's getting worse and worse.

i have a neck cushion.. you know the u-shaped ones.. and i'm sitting on that, on my padded computer chair, and it still hurts. i can manage maybe 15 minutes on the computer, tops.. been laying down the rest of the day except when i've gone to the bathroom. which is far too often, which i'm sure is only making it worse.

as is my coughing.. i've had pneumonia since sept.20
