42 weeks and facing Pit in the morning! Help!

With a momma in labor, she's almost 42 weeks and facing induction tomorrow morning. Her water broke yesterday at 3pm, no exams. Contractions are coming, but not strong and varying 3-10 mins apart. Any advice? she does not want to go to the hospital tomorrow morning for Pit.

She sounds like she's in early labor. If she doesn't want to go, then she shouldn't go. There are places in the world where a broken bag of waters for longer than 24 hrs isn't an obsetrical emergency! If she's not inserting things into her vagina, and she's having contractions that aren't stopping, she should probably stay home and try to sleep before it gets more intense!

She can take vit c and garlic, and monitor her temp if she wants to be really cautious about the broken bag.

I have heard on numerous occasions that the "24 hour rule" is incorrect. I did a quick google search (because I can't remember the details of it) and found this:

Two independent factors influence the risk of infection: the duration of gestation, and the interval between vaginal examination and delivery. If corrections are made for these two factors, there appears to be no clear correlation between the incidence of infection and the period of time the membranes have been ruptured. Conservative management is justified if vaginal examination is avoided until delivery within 24 hours is expected to occur.

You can do more research, but I'm just throwing that out there. IMO, if you continue to do NO vaginal checks and just keep an eye on things, there's no reason to worry. Only do a vaginal check if you feel it's absolutely necessary, and at that point you can keep closer watch.
