Weird speech thing DD (2.5) started doing

For about the last week or so my DD, who is very verbal, started adding an 'uh' at the end of many words, pretty much all the time except when the word ends in a consonant that makes it awkward to add the uh, then she won't.

Dora is on now, and she just said, "Oh MAN-uh" as an example! She never used to do that - would just say "Oh MAN!" without the 'uh' tacked on the end.

If she wants her jammies, she would say, "I want my jammies-uh" or when she wants to nurse, "I want nursies-uh" ... things like that.

She does it a LOT, all day. I'm just wonder what that is? I'm assuming it's just a phase, but just wanted to ask around to see if anyone else's kid did this or something similar?

Yeah, I think it's just a phase. One of my kids did that too, and I'm pretty sure it was just when she realized there was an ending sound on the word and really emphasized it for a while, if that makes sense?

It reminds me of when my kindergartners would write words using "sound spelling" and because they were trying to hear and record each sound in the word, they would hear (and record) an /u/ sound at the ends of words sometimes.

e.g. "sometimes" might be written as "sumtimsu"

It is just a phase. DD did the same thing. I can't even remember all the weird speech phases DD has had. But, I totally remember that one. "Baby-yuh" and "No-wuh" were heard a lot. It only lasted a week or two.

Right now we are in the phase where DD feels the need to repeat certain words over and over for emphasis.

"I want the bear to sit right, right, right, here."
"This is my favorite, favorite, favorite, cup."
"This book is very, very, very, scary."

I think some kids just like to experiment.

The fake word phase was the worst.

My niece went through a phase where everything had an "ee" at the end. "No-ee, I don't want a book-ee"

Course, that one had an obvious source, since she wore "diapies" drank "milkie" and played with "doggies"

Thanks It's nice to know it's not completely abnormal. Last night I searched Google for speech impediments and couldn't find anything about doing this, so hopefully she'll stop doing it soon!

My toddler will deliberately pick up speech habits from kids he spends time with and go with them for weeks or even months.

The most annoying was when he started splitting his words: "chay-yer" "stay-ers." One day he asked for more "Fee-ood" and I said, "Oh, do you mean 'food'?" and he answered, "Ima, 'fee-ood' and 'food' are the same thing." So it was clearly deliberate. And it went on for 8 weeks!
