Baby's Wardrobe...what else do I need?

Help me figure out what I still need!!

Heres what I have:

Newborn:

4 outfits
2 pants (tan and brown)
4 sleepers
5 long sleeve body suits

0-3 Months:

4 outfits
10 sleepers
4 short sleeve bodysuits (think short sleeve button crotch shirt)
2 gowns
5 short sleeve white onesies

3 Months:

3 outfits
1 dress
5 sleepers
1 shirt (long sleeve)
4 short sleeve body suits

3-6 Months:

1 outfit
3 sleepers

6 Months:

1 outfit
1 dress
2 sleepers
1 cardigan

6-9 Months:

2 outfits
3 summery one piece outfits
3 sleepers
5 short sleeve white onesies

9 Months:

3 sleepers

I figure I probably need more white onesies in varying sizes for layering...but Im not sure how they'll fit with the cloth diapers. Should I bother getting the newborn onesies? or should I just look for newborn undershirts (no buttons)? Should I get long sleeved onesies or undershirts, too? She will be born dead of winter in Chicago, after all.

And I know I need more socks. I only have maybe 3-4 pair for a tiny baby. So socks need to be bought.

I'll wait on buying any 6 months and up outfits, because who knows what the season will be like once shes ready to fit into those. Those can be bought after shes born. But do I seem okay with the early sizes? What else would you supplement her wardrobe with? Do you think I have too much of anything?

HELP please!

onesies pretty much. I ran out of clean onesies ALL THE TIME. Still do. It's the main item I'll have to replace with this babe.

They get grimey so fast, and are grown out of so fast...and it's the one thing my kids pretty much wear every day regardless of what else I put them in.

Socks...I have to replace those too.

If you're worried about cold, I would get a couple one-piece fleece suits rather than bother with more onesies. After all, we adults don't tend to bundle in a bunch of cotton t-shirts when cold. That solves the socks problem as well (mine never kept socks on). Hats are also good for cold. You can probably skip newborn in most things and go straight to the next size up. It'll be a bit baggy on a small baby, but should last longer.

I love baby gowns. I have like 6 or 7 of them that are marked 0-6 months. Of course they're home-only outfits since you can't get them in a carseat without taking the legs out but I figure it will be easier to dress him if he's wiggly. Head, arms, pull down, done. If I don't put a onesie under it then all I have to do is slide it up to change his diaper. No snaps, zippers, or getting legs in and out. Hopefully he loves them as much as I do!

The only thing I have suggest is maybe a couple long-sleeve onsies in 0-3. I used those a lot with DD and she was born in Jan. As for onsies that fit over cloth, I had problems with Gerber onsies (or any brand that fastened in front like that) fitting, the leg holes ended up being too low or something.

I have no problem with most brands (ie: carters, just one year, ect...) by snapping in front I mean that gerber onsies back flap come up and around and snap near the top of the diaper. Whereas carters and several other brands snap closer to the crotch.

Another thing I thought of was a sweater or sweatshirt to wear while they're in the car seat.

I've found that Gerber onesies also tend to stretch out of shape. I think you can never have too many onesies and sleepers. I usually keep babies in them unless I am going out of the house and then I put an actual outfit on.

all you need for a cold weather babe is a bunch of long sleeve onesies and some blankets to wrap them in....a bunch of sleepers....mine wore a hat at all times as our house is also freezing...and we loved the sleep sack for nighttime.
i also had this pair of obnoxious fake-ugg-looking mocassins from target that were all of $6 but she wore them all.the.time. it was the only thing that kept the socks on since they tied around the ankles. robeez or ministars work also.

for later ages i just waited to see what gifts trickled in and would buy stuff ahead if i saw it on clearance. if it's more than $5 it better be really cute. i've really not prepared and spent next to nothing but dd has a closet i could only dream of through age 2t, i think.

Oh one thing you're missing that I have (hopefully I'll use) is scratch mittens. Sometimes even trimmed nails can be pretty sharp on little faces.

If you are in a cold area think about the Sleep gowns (I feel like they are called something else). They are pretty long and zip up and can can over other clothes and add extra warmth at night.

Mainly onesies or sleep n play type things... that is mainly what I used early on with DD and you can expect to have to change them 1-2 times a day due to spit up/ barf/ milk leaking / diaper leaking etc.

You don't always have to change them that often but there will be some of those days!

My friend used baby legs (leg warmer type things) recently and said she loved em. Put them with a onesie and you don't have to take of a whole outfit or anything for a diaper change - their legging just stay on. I plan to get a pair for this babe.

I would add a pair of infant sized slippers - my house is cold and my baby's feet were cold even in a sleeper. I also don't like keeping a baby in 'pyjamas' all day - I'm the same way myself, it's important to me to get up and get dressed - so I had lots of onesies and soft pants and shirts and soft pants.

It really depends on how messy your baby is. At the moment I'm going through AT LEAST 3 long sleeved onesies and 3 pairs of pajamas and 2 pairs of pants every 24 hours and sometimes upwards of 5 in the onesies and pajamas... partially because of spit-up, but mostly because this baby sleeps so much that she soaks through newborn size cloth diapers With my older daughter I went through at least 10 onesies a day (she was the spit-up queen) until I learned to put bibs on her to catch the milk (and then I went through 10 bibs a day). We live pretty far north and I've gotten almost no use out of our short sleeved onesies for this October baby.

Size-wise, at almost 9 lb. she still fits into newborn sizes but can wear 3 month in most things. 3M and 0-3M pajamas are still a little too big for comfort. She's wearing AOIs and slightly more bulky pocket diapers, no prefolds though. I tried to put her in baby legs around 8 lb. and they were still too big, but they are really nice in cold climates once the baby is older and the same pair(s) will fit well into toddlerhood.

Offhand, I would buy more long sleeved shirts/onesies in the 3M size, more 3M pants, etc. You'll probably be given more newborn/0-3M sleepers/outfits as gifts as your EDD approaches and/or after the baby is born and the 3M clothes should only be a little baggy on any baby over 7 lb. I'd get a pack of the tiny newborn socks too since a) you'll probably lose a lot of socks in the first few weeks and b) the bigger baby socks are sometimes hard to keep on newborns.

TIP: It's ok to wash baby clothes with the cloth diapers instead of waiting for a load of "regular" laundry. This may be a no-brainer to some people, but I didn't figure it out until my 2nd baby and it gets you clean baby laundry way quicker when you're doing 2-3 loads of diapers per day anyway.
