I like the way you phrased that. That's is SO me and I know DH would agree!

But my mom does that on occassion as well. We've never asked for anything, but she has moments where she gets in the mood to buy the boys stuff.
My 4.5 almost 5yo is currently on a name brand kick but only with Sketchers and that's because he heard it at school. He thinks that he's wearing Sketchers right now but they are actually LA Gear tennis shoes?? He picked them out, according to my mom, so whichever. They are play shoes. He also picked out some Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtle shoes, but those are DEFINITELY going back to the store. I don't even know why she bought them. And sometimes she'll do that. She doesn't necessarily buy quality - like we love Carter's and Gymboree since it holds up so well - she goes by looks and price alone and then they can't be passed down to DS2 because DS1 has worn the heck out of them and they have fallen apart. It's a bummer and such a waste of money for her....

Ok, I'll quite rambling now.

Have you ever spoken to your mom about this? Before my son was even born, I told my mom how we felt about brands and characters. She's always complied, asked questions etc before purchasing. She doesn't "get it," but she respects it.

As others have said, there are some brands that are sooo worth it (Lands End, Garnet Hill, Hanna Andersen, etc,) so maybe you could convince your mom to switch from (I'm just speculating- I have no idea if this is the case!) Tommy Hilfiger and Polo Jr to some less (for lack of a better word) ostentatious name-brands?

I would just go with the flow on this one, personally. I am not into any of the character clothing, stuff with obvious branding, etc. - not because I see anything wrong with it, but because it's not my style. However, my mom has really different taste in baby clothes and I would never say anything to her about it, I just couldn't break her heart that way. It's not worth it. I'd just continue buying what I want/like and use it most often and only use what she buys when she's there to see it and notice it's being used and then put it back in the drawer for a another week or two, lol. I try to live by the mantra "pick your battles" .. and this isnt one I'd be willing to fight, personally.
