my sonny boy is now almost 6 weeks. i thought ec'ing was just for weird people or something until i had a dream that told me i needed to ec,so now i want to learn more about it and give it a try. i know that you need to cue your baby by doing something like ssssss...... when you want them to pee. i also know a couple of positions to hold the baby in,but that's it.

so how often should i try to hold him over the toilette? do babies show signs of needing to pee or poop? i don't think i noticed this yet.

i'm worried that if i do ec he will fuss at night or when we are out and i can't take him to the potty. i also don't want him to be diaper less and pee on me and the bed and stuff.

any advice for a beginner?

thanks.

The great thing I've learned about EC is that you make the rules. How often, where, what to wear - it's all up to you.

We part-time EC with cloth diapers. For us, this means that I take DS to the toilet when I think he may need to go, or when it's been a while, or when I remember! He is very rarely without a diaper. The rest of the time he eliminates in a diaper. It's not all-or-none. This doesn't seem to be confusing to him at all - I suspect unless we move more to a diaper-free model, he won't train particularly early, but at least I won't be convincing a 2-year-old that it's okay to eliminate somewhere else than a diaper!

Check out some of the resources in this section - there are great ideas for getting started. And then adapt it to what feels right to you. You may decide that you will go part-time, or you may find that you like going completely diaper-free.

Yay!

My DS pees quite frequently in the morning - I never caught them until he was older.

Well done! You're now doing EC

Thank you! I think he actually likes it too. He smiles when I hold him over the toilette.

This is exactly what we did and DD was ready for training pants by 15 or 16m. She has occasional misses (18m tomorrow)- whatever, no biggie. I put her in a diaper if we're going somewhere that it will bother me (or others) if she pees. I put her in a diaper at night even though she is only wet... say 2x per month? Because its more relaxing FOR ME, and she doesn't mind it.
