For those that went overdue- did u induce or wait it out?

I'm 2 days over my due date. At this point I haven't tried any induction tricks, besides sex and lots of walking, which I consider natural daily things anyways.

I haven't done breast pump, accupuncture, castor oil, or anything like that to "induce" labor because i'm just waiting it out and figure baby will come when ready.

Not that I don't want labor to start right this minute!!

did you try to induce your labor or just wait it out?

i tried everything you can try at home, most more than once. none worked. had her 1 day shy of 42 weeks, when i had given up trying and was resigned to having a christmas baby lol

At 40w2d I would keep waiting. 50% of babies show up within one week of their due date and 90% show up within two (with first time moms averaging about 41w3d). A little past 40w I might try minimally invasive things (borage/evening primrose oil, sex, light walking) but I wouldn't consider medical induction before 42 weeks unless there was a medical reason or I had a gut feeling something was wrong.

My DS was born 41wks 1day and no real induction methods tried. We were having sex and walking every night but I consider those things pretty normal as we'd been doing that most of the pregnancy.

I have had 2 42+ babies born at home. the first at 41+5 or so i took the castor oil coctail which didnt do much more than clean me out..and again at 42 and that kicked me into labour..which was fast & furious..pretty much 4 hours from first contraction to meeting her (all 10lbs 5oz!)
my second 42 week babe i threatened with the Castor oil coctail but went into labour the night before taking it (thank goodness.. ) her labour was a bit longer, but definitely nicer by far!

i did try S&S's in the 41+ week range with borth and was taking some homeopathic/herbal remedies with my second late baby..but i really think that babies gestate how long they need to.
my first baby was born at 39 weeks..

I was induced with pitocin because I was "overdue" I would never ever ever do it again. unfortunately, I can't find any place to vbac that doesn't have "rules" (and I need to be in a hospital to monitor another complication) so because of my age and the fact I am a vbac, I'll need to schedule a repeat c-section after 41 weeks. I wish I knew then what I know now. I don't think I would try any other attempts either, I just think babies come when they are ready. She was clearly not ready at 40 w 5 days.

I waited it out. Trust me, it seems like forever at that point, but it isn't. It's totaly worth doing it naturally because induction leads to other interventions most of the time.

I didn't do a single thing with DS. Early labour started at about 11:30pm at 41w2d, active labour started at about midnight on 41w4d and he was born a handful of hours later. Honestly, I kept telling myself he wouldn't be here until at LEAST 42weeks (based on family history of all us being born 41-43 weeks - more at 43 than not), so I knew his own time would come closer to around 42w and therefore when I was pretty sure I was in labour at 41w3d I kept thinking, "Oh, no! I'm not ready! I still have a few more days!" hahaha

This baby's EDD is the 13th of February, but I'm telling myself the earliest is 20th February and that s/he may end up being a March baby! I won't do any induction ("natural" or otherwise) unless there is a specific medical reason that would warrant induction, regardless of his gestational age.

FYI, the REAL average gestational age for spontaneous labour is 41w1d, NOT 40 weeks as everyone thinks. Here is a great article on that. Babies aren't overdue...they come on THEIR own due dates, not our caregiver's poorly estimated due date.

Definitely wait it out. I was induced at 40w 6d with DD1 and ended with a c-sec. Went for a VBAC with DD2, she was born at 41w 3d after labor started naturally.

At 40 weeks 2 days you are NOT overdue

You're not "overdue" until 42 weeks 1 day.

Babies come when ready. Ds was 43 weeks 5 days. If I'd kicked him out at 40 weeks he would not have been ready.

Wait it out. The one time I was induced turned into a nightmare. I learned a hard lesson from that.

Wait it out. I had DS at 42 weeks and DD2 at 42 weeks 6 days. DD1 was born at 40 weeks.

I know how hard it is to wait! And other people don't make it any easier! I had to stop answering phone calls when I hit 41 weeks.

ya my MIL is asking me "I wonder how far they'll let you go" thinking I'm going to get induced this week or something. I haven't told her I will be waiting until at least 42 weeks if it comes to that.

Just another voice saying wait! Wait, wait, wait! I was induced at 41w4 (suspected macrosomia -- what turned out to be all 7 pounds 4 ounces of her!) and ended up with a c/s, and lord above, you do not want that.

Well, you're still within a normal timeframe to wait it out without any increased risks.

But I had a wonderful induction at 41 weeks. Yes, there are risks with induction, but it is not always a horrible experience. A lot of people feel that induction and/or pitocin = a long, hard, horrible painful experience filled with intervention, but I have not found that to be the case. Every woman's births and experiences are different, but if you do end up deciding to induce at some point, don't go into it feeling defeated before you even start. You may very well have a wonderful birthing.

I was induced at 40w4d with number 3 and had a good experience ... labor was 2 hours shorter than with DS2 and it was definately more intense but went intervention free. I would opt for natural labor but after waiting until 41 weeks w/our first and multiple complications and interventions and EVERYTHING going wrong ... I don't personally feel comfortable going too far over the 40 w mark. My DS suffers brain damage from that birth and our quick induction seemed perfect compared to that. Not all inductions are bad experiences ... if I go over 40w I would demand frequent NST and US ...
