My daughter, turning 6 in a few weeks, coughs after (sometimes during) vigorous exercise, especially in cold weather. It started when she was about 2.5 or so. Her pediatrician said it sounded like exercise-induced bronchospasm, but did not seem concerned about it and offered no treatment. My daughter has never complained about being short of breath (I've asked her specifically), nor has she ever had asthma symptoms otherwise. When she does cough, she always says that a drink of water helps, then she's fine.
I took her to a naturopath a few years ago, who recommended taking her off dairy. We did, but really it didn't seem to make any difference. I strongly suspect she has seasonal allergies (right now they're particularly evident), which I think contributes to the problem.
Anyone have any knowledge or experience to share? It really does seem isolated to exercise, though when she gets a cold it does tend to turn into a lingering cough too. Otherwise, it doesn't seem to affect her breathing at all. As far as I can tell.
