Getting Enough Water/Fluid

What are the best ways to tell that your body is getting enough water/fluids?

Due to my job it is very hard for me to get a full 64 oz of water. I'm lucky if I can get 48 oz most days. I drink all I can stomach on my way to work and on the drive home.

I don't think I'm dehydrated, but I'm really not sure....what exactly should I be looking for to make sure?

-Clear or nearly clear pee
-Drink to thirst and a little more
-If you start getting contractions, drink a LOT more

don't mean to be nosy but your job doesn't allow you to drink water throughout the day???? Being pregnant I think you need to get at least 64 oz on the low end. Your kidneys are working so much harder ya know. My midwife says 3 liters is ideal for most pregnant women.

LOL...you aren't being nosy! I work in a casino in the table games dept. I can't have fluids on the floor while working. I can only drink on breaks. Even drinking about a glass per break I only get about 4 or 5 glasses while at work. I get usually another 1 driving to work, and 1 driving home.

I just worry that I'm not getting enough. Can't help. I'm hoping that I will be able to talk my bosses into letting me keep water on the floor to help out. We'll see how that goes.

Swelling can also be an indicator that you're not getting enough fluids.

Can you keep a water bottle that you know the size of (so you know how many ounces you're drinking) and refill it on your breaks and drives? Then you'll have a better idea of how much you're getting. Also, I have always found that water with some other flavor - be it fresh lemon juice or a splash of apple juice, etc. - goes down more easily and more quickly. You may be able to up your intake simply by adding some flavor to it so you drink more on those breaks.

HTH!

Maybe a note from midwife/doctor would help? Just a thought - they might be willing to bend the rules during your pregnancy if it's considered a medical need.

For me, pee is a pretty good indicator. I would have guzzle water constantly to get clear pee, I think, but if mine is really pale yellow I figure I am doing all right. The downside to that is...my bladder fills more often. Is that going to be an issue with your work? I am guessing you can only leave the floor during designated breaks, which could make drinking water at the table a bit of an issue for you, rules aside! :P

I think for you, it might make sense to ask for permission to keep a water bottle somewhere nearby. But as your get farther along, bathroom breaks will surely become an issue.
I also work at a job where I can't have water at my desk all day (I work in a laboratory). But I can take breaks whenever I want to-- so I usually stop by the water cooler every time I go to the bathroom. At this point, that's like every 20 min...

One thing I do is keep a glass in the bathroom.. I drink one every time I go up to pee... usually even a small glass at night (I have found it does not really make me have to go more often at night, just pee more when I do wake up to go).

I drink at other times too but I think this is really helping me to up my water intake.

Thanks for the ideas ladies!

I plan on calling my boss tomorrow and talk with him to see what he says about me keeping a resealable bottle on the floor to drink. I'm keeping my fingers crossed.

I drink 100-150 ounces a day. I know I'm dehydrated if I drink less than 100 ounces/3 liters. You need minerals to be hydrated too. I drink mineral water or coconut water.
