Thought it was too soon for this!

My dd is 8 months this week. I babysat her one year old friend the other day...well, the big girl grabbed my baby's book away, causing my little one great stress. We worked it out by redirection.

Well, my dd had a different friend over yesterday, who is the same age as she is. Her friend picked one of her toys from the floor. My dd dropped what she was playing with to snatch the toy away from her friend.

Let the games begin.

But seriously...does this seem soon for babies to start vying for toys? I thought I had at least a few months!

Oh no - I don't think it's too young at all!

Kids at this age are really completely self-absorbed. They don't see a toy in the hand of another child as any different than a toy sitting on the table. You want it - you take it, lol.

You just have to be careful at this age b/c it's very hard for the little ones to have things taken from them. It's a very strong emotion for such a little person and can really overwhelm them. I tried to be extra careful with toys, what I brought with me, etc. and always watched the situation for possible "conflicts".

Hang in there!

my 9 month old guys do it too

my two boys are 9 months and they have been stealing each others toys for several months now. sometimes the victim cries, sometimes he just grabs it back, sometimes he watches his brother play with the toy. when the toy in question is big, like an activity center, they will actually share it!

I usually just give the "victim" another toy and he is happy again
