tell me about whopping cough

Great. I highly suspect 3 y.o. DS has whopping cough. I'm clueless here other than the symptoms.

I need to get him to a doctor but quite honestly am rather scared to. I've had such bad run in's with doctors because we don't vax and here DS has a disease that there is vax for.

Any advice on dealing with doctors or home treatments. Does ascorbic acid really work? How much for a 35 lb boy?

He tends towards anemia and is so pale right now I'm worried that he is anemic to boot. He's not eating at all.

Sorry. My thoughts are everywhere. Thank you in advance mamas!!!

Find a good traditional pediatric chiropractor! An osteopath might also be a good option. Certain parts of the neck respond well to adjustments to help fight off pertussis. www.icpa4kids.org is a great place to search for one near you. I've also heard that high doses of vitamin c work and there are some homeopathic remedies. Try finding a classical homeopath or a naturopath who sees kids. I wouldn't take him to a pediatrician. A naturopath will most likely see you and help get some herbal based medicines. A homeopath will treat pertussis no problem. Homeopaths and traditional chiropractors are generally on the anti-vax side of life, naturopaths are often on the "your choice" side of things. You might find this link helpful: http://www.doctoryourself.com/whoop.html

I hope this helps you! You'll be in my prayers!

We just went through whooping cough here. 4yo ds and 18mo ds. Anyway, when I got the + on 18mo's pertussis test, I immediately called the dr for a round of abx for 4yo. So, 4yo has had a *very* minor case. However, 18mo ds has really had a hard time. We did sodium ascorbate and I did notice a difference though not dramatic, just less spasmodic. But, still coughed until purple in the face. PLEASE make sure your child is getting nutrition. dehydration is the leading cause of hospitalizations for this disease. broth, herbal teas, juices (no milk).

Also, I would like to recommend educating yourself more on the diseases that you choose not to vax for. Many times, we need to know more than our dr's simply because they don't typically treat these diseases and therefore aren't on their radar. In fact, I took my 18mo in to the dr 1 week before diagnosis. Told me it was a bad cold, etc. Well, I knew that wasn't it. I knew how long he'd been coughing. I called the dr told them I suspected it, we had the lab drawn. BAM! + I fear if I wouldn't have been on top of it, we could have ended up in the hospital without a clue.

It's a long disease process, so rest when you can. (hugs)
