Low iron in infant

My child will be one this week and last week his iron tested at 10.9 and 10.7 and they insist I give him poly-vi-sol with iron. Well he HATES it and it clearly makes his stomach hurt and his poop is AWFUL. Sticky, black won't come off the diapers and smells up the whole house.

He does not yet eat meat and he is breastfed. Are there other ways to raise his iron? I hate giving him the poly-vi-sol.

How old is he? We corrected my son's low iron around 9-10 months w/ diet. We did ground beef smashed/pureed w/ sweet potato, and blackstrap molasses (usually in apples). At his next blood draw, he was fine.

He will be one year Wednesday. He does not eat meat as of yet but LOVES sweet potato and broccoli too. I was really surprised that his iron was low.

Will upping MY iron help?
