finding pants that fit ... suggestions?

My babies are 9 months. They move around alot. We use Chinese prefolds. We are having problems finding pants that fit. The cloth diapers are so bulky that we have to get pants that are quite large, and then they are way too long. I could cut them off. But I hate the thought of buying new clothes and cutting them up.

People have suggested dresses and such. But one baby will consistently pull the dress off over her head. Now that it is getting cooler, I think she should wear clothes. The other one, if she has access to her diaper, will remove the diaper cover and start to work on getting the diaper off. So, onesies and/or pants need to be part of this. And it is getting cool, so I would like them to wear pants, anyway. Before they were so mobile, I would just roll up the legs of the pants, but that doesn't work any more.

I can't be the only person having this issue! What do other people do?

i've had decent luck with carter's brand. i just saw some at TRU that have long cuffs you can roll up.

I always just size up and use a lot of legging type pants, they stay up without rolling usually but mind you mine is only 4.5 mo so I don't have the problem with mobility yet.

Buy boy's pants. Baby girl pants are cut more narrow, and often have a low rise. Why do we do this to babies?

American Apparel karate pants are also a good choice as are brands like Sckoon and Speesees.

Steer toward stretchy materials and away from ones that are rigid and need to be snapped or zipped.

definitely boy pants. Baby girl pants are cut much narrower and lower and are harder to get over the diaper. Also I second too-big leggings. They are usually snug enough at the ankles that they just bunch up instead of becoming a trip hazard.

Try legging type pants or if you can sew, just hem the pants up to the length you want them and as they grow, you can let the hem down more.

Hanna Andersson's wiggle pants are AMAZING. I just bought some on sale with a matching play dress. Expensive, but they'll fit for a long time, they look great, and the quality is outstanding.

For smaller babies I also love the Under the Nile footed pants... Not sure whether their larger/non footed pants are as roomy in the bum, though...

My kids wear one-piece knit outfits until they're quite old to allow for diaper-bulk. I think they are way cute and you can often get them at Gymboree on sale (they last long and don't stain too badly from there) That way your daughter couldn't access her diaper at all.

I think these are easy to find for girls, but I don't know, I've only ever had boys.

One piece outfits are the easiest solution. Outfits like this http://www.gap.com/browse/product.do...scid=785537002

If you're set on pants, it is a little more challenging. As far as mainstream brands go, you can't just chose one brand that will work. I have one pair of Carter's pants that fit over cloth, and another the same size that doesn't. The same goes for Gap, Old Navy, Osh Kosh and Gymboree. Once you find a pair that works (I shop at thrift stores, fwiw) take a good look at how it is cut, and chose others that look the same.

Sweatpants and leggings are a safer bet (but not guaranteed -- you really have to LOOK at their proportions and how long the rise is), but I like jeans and I've actually found some that fit.

You could also invest in a wardrobe of wool longies....

I like Carters, too. 2-pack leggings w roll cuff. Girls have ruffles on seat, boys are plain. Thick, stretchy cotton knit. Bought correct size and fit nicely. With older kids I found they fit for a long time, even over trifolded prefolds. Cheap enough to wear as leggings, too (I paid $8cdn for a 2-pack). Carters are cut longer in the body, so I like their onesies/shirts better, too.
I just bought a pair of cord pants from H&M that had an adjustable waist (elastic and buttons like bigger kids) and elastic cuffs. They were sized big, but the elastic on the cuffs keep them out of her way (not actually crawling yet, but scooting backwards on tummy).
I don't like the one-piece outfits because I find they aren't long enough in the body and unsnap themselves!
Tights also work well, but I haven't found any with non-skid feet!
With dresses, the only thing I found that worked in the winter was pairing with a onesie and either tights or leggings.

carters, and I got some ikookie yoga pants that fit nicely over cds (prefolds.). Even the

if it is cold I put baby legs underneath as as big sox. the 6-12 month and 12-24 months fit, the 6-12 are just shorter on my 10 mo, but they still go over the diaper.
more are here in 3 pants sets.

Thanks for all the feedback! Tonight, it looks as though I will have a chance to go shopping for a few minutes. I will see what I can find. If it comes down to it, I can always buy too long and get out the sewing machine. I do like the looks of those one piece outfits. My mom had given me some that she found at a yard sale, but they have long since outgrown them. I liked them, but somehow they had slipped my mind.

If you have even basic sewing skills and are not intimidated/disliking wool, you could just find some wool sweaters and make sweater pants. It would be great for your girls because you can make them tight through the legs like leggings and then just slip a shirt/dress over top. Plus, they are very economical!! I use Katrina's Quick Sew pattern- find it online for free!
