Help keeping baby dry

My seven month old must have finally started teething in earnest because he is pouring out a constant virtual sheet of drool. He was always the drooliest of my children, but I never dreamed it could get worse! I changed him for bed last night, put on two layers and a bib, and within ten minutes he was soaked all the way through. Never mind that I hate the idea of him sleeping in a bib anyway because it feels like a strangulation hazard, even though he's in bed right next to me.

And he is developing a rash on his chest and neck, patches of little red dots. I suppose it could be irritation from the cloth rubbing on the wetness (because it didn't start in the folds of his neck but rather his chest), but I suspect it is the beginning of a yeast rash from all that drool. So I am putting diaper cream and some powder and hoping it doesn't get worse.

But what can I do to keep his chest dry? We're investing in more bibs, but seriously -- he is soaking through the bib and clothing at a record pace.

Maybe try putting him in a more absorbent fabric like fleece. Cotton soaks through really quickly.

or if you have any wool garment, put that next to his skin and other layers on top? we have a wool sleep sack, don't know if there are other wool first layers...

What about a bib that has plastic on the back?

Polyester fleece actually isn't very absorbent at all. It would help repel the water, though. That's why some diaper covers are made of fleece.

That's what I was thinking, too. I use fleece liners to keep ds's bottom dry, but it doesn't absorb at all. What about sewing a bib that snaps onto the front/shoulders of a sleeper? you coud use microfleece on the outside and microfiber on the inside to absorb more drool that the regular bib. Why not check out the cloth diaper forum. I'm sure they'll have plenty of ideas, too.

This^^^ or I got some bibs on Etsy that are triple-layered. One side is minky, one side is a funky cotton print, and in between is a waterproof layer. DS is a big drooler too, and he has soaked through them, but if I change them often enough they last way longer than just cotton bibs.

I was just browsing through a German cloth diaper provider site (they provide cloth for sewing your own) and they sell Sandwich PUL. But the stuff she sells is 100% Polyester. Maybe there's something available where you are with cotton as the outer layers?
