So frustrated and sad about my elderly dog...and has anyone had luck with doggie diapers?

My Jack Russell Terrier is 12 years old and she has several medical problems: she's somewhat incontinent and has to take Proin 2x a day and it doesn't even work that well, shes developing cataracts and is losing her vision a little, she has a heart murmur that the vet says will only get worse, she has mild arthritis, she has really bad teeth and bad breath and getting them cleaned will cost $800. But the far worst of all her issues is her separation anxiety and her peeing on the floor.

We moved into an apt about 8 months ago, she barks incessantly when we leave so we had her on Clomicalm for a month to get her calmed down enough to develop a routine that she would be calm for. She cannot hold her urine for more than 3 hrs and will pee on the floor if we are home in time. I tried putting her in the kitchen with a gate up so that when has has an accident it's not on the carpet, but her anxiety is back up through the roof and we'll get kicked out if someone complains about her barking. So now I may need to get more Clomicalm at $90 for a month's worth is not cheap.

Her anxiety and barking and peeing is driving me nuts. It give ME anxiety about leaving the house because my neighbor below me, oh lucky me, works nights so she is trying to sleep all day. I feel like I'm being held hostage by my dog.

I love her so much and she still has tons of life left. Well not tons, she doesn't sleep well at night and mostly lays around all day but she doesn't appear to be in any pain and still will have fun once in a while (chase something, fetch).

I'm contemplating doggie diapers, but pretty sure she will try to rip them off as soon as I leave, then will continue her barking. Not sure how much longer I can put up with this.

So far my only options are to leave her with free run of the house (which has been the only thing that she barks the least about) and come home to puddles on the already nasty carpet (about twice a week she'll have an accident).

You'll have the same issues with dog diapers as you can have with human diapers - rashes do occur in dogs especially if she sits in a wet diaper all day while someone is at work.

Could you get a doggie litter box or sod box and see if she'll use that instead of the floor?

If clomicalm worked you can have it prescribed as a generic (clomipramine). There are also other TCAs available cheaply as generics that are off-label. That doesn't mean they're unsafe - it just means the drug company didn't get them labeled to be used in a particular species for a particular diagnosis.
