fleece bunting question

Do you think this fleece bunting would be car seat safe or does it look too plush?

Does anyone here have any personal experience with this product?

I think it looks absolutly adorable! I'm having trouble finding a fleece bunting that is thin enough for use in a car seat and also has the hand and foot flaps.

So what do you think?

Hmm, it does look a bit bulky. We had a beautiful bunting when DS was a newbie, but we would take it off before putting him in his carseat (even though it is cold where we are!). Not only was it too thick, but it wasn't snug enough around his crotch to get the car seat's crotch strap to fit well. What about finding a snug fitting fleece pullover and then using a shower-cap style cover for his car seat (assuming he has an infant seat), or having nice warm fleece or wool blankets to tuck around him after strapping him in to his convertible car seat?

You can always try putting on whatever outerwear you're considering, then strap baby in to his seat. Then, take him out of the outerwear, put him back in the seat, and see if the straps are still as tight as you would like them to be. If you have to loosen them to fit the fleece/bunting/whatever in, then it's not safe.

Oh, and I've read good reviews by some very car seat conscious mamas on this fleece from Hanna. Perhaps it's less bulky than the LL bean one? Looks like it at least! (and, who couldn't use a little extra Hanna in their kids' wardrobes! )

Thanks!

I really like the hanna bunting, but I wish it had flaps for hands and feet.

ds2 is in a convertible, or else I would get a car seat cover thing.

It gets quite cold where we are so I was thinking I'd use the fleece bunting with blankets on top.

I'll keep looking!

I was looking to get that exact bunting!
We actually got some fleece buntings handed down (REI brand) and they're in 3-6 months which is the same size DS is wearing in clothes so I thought they would be fine. I put one on him in the stroller the other day and they were so loose and baggy. What should I do? Buy a smaller sized one? to wear in the car? If it helps, he's quite lean, but a little on the long side.

We have the Hi-Loft for our stroller and it is way too thick for a car seat...

For that I have this http://www.llbean.com/llb/shop/61317?feat=500223-GN3 only ours is about 5 years old and they still came with the foot and hand cover. Maybe try a second hand kids clothing store for an old one?

I have not seen that one in person, but Old Navy has ones very similar, that work great for in the carseat (and they have hand & feet flaps).

I have seen that one in person and it is wayyyy too thick for a carseat. It is true to its description and quite "plush"

Maybe go with a thinner one, and a carseat poncho (which is nice b/c you can use it out of the car too)

When I see those kinds of buntings and know that baby will be wearing it while strapped into a carseat, in what I assume is a vehicle that has heat, all I can think of is baby overheating or getting miserably hot with no way to take it off en route.

I love the buntings for out of the car, but not in....

We had that happen to DD1 and it was SO scary. I never made that mistake again and am so thankful we realized what was wrong when she started screaming-she was so hot she was sweating and only about 4 days old. Scary!

SO, I'm in MN where it frequently is below zero in winter and windchills can be crazy. Even just going from the car to church, what do you do? Just carrying him won't always be an option because I have a 13 mth old daycare girl with me. So, I'll have to use a stroller. The seasons of my kids' births are off just enough for some of this to be new (age-wise).

That is scary.

I guess in your situation, with the daycare girl since you'll be needing to use a stroller, I'd get a bunting for the stroller (not the kind babies wear, but the bag type you slip them into) and put him directly into that from the carseat.

Yeah, we have BundleMe's for the stroller for just that reason. They're great for the stroller and with twin newborns and a 2.5 yo in december sometimes the stroller is going to be needed! Blankets would work too, but we were gifted the (used) BundleMe,

And just to clarify for those who might not know - they are considered very unsafe for the carseat, even though they're marketed for that. Please don't use them in the car! But they're fine in a stroller.

So, do you leave the BundleMe in the stroller all the time or put it in each time you use it? If you leave it in, doesn't it get cold if the stroller's in the car?

I'm planning to leave the BundleMe in the stroller when possible. It is usally in the house (we live in town and walk some places) or if it is the van, it will warm up as the van warms up, and likely before we get to wherever we're going. Even when I had a car the trunk was usually a good bit warmer than the outside (though a bit cooler than the car itself), so I think it would be ok. I haven't actually done it yet, though, so we'll see!
