Ideas for a "natural" Halloween celebration?

My son is 13 months old and I wanted to do a small celebration for Halloween- more of a celebration similar to Fall/Hallow's Eve/Harvest type celebration with friends and family where the kiddos may dress up, but no real sugary treats....

I would like it to be a celebration versus a commercial holiday and just wondering if anyone had any ideas or was planning on something similar....?

Thanks!

we are doing a brunch potluck on Saturday morning. Costumes, games, crafts, etc. We were going to do bobbing for apples, but considering most kids I know mouths are not large enough and are terrified of sticking their face in the water, we are reconsidering that game although I may still do it for the adults, (we are a fun bunch and would totally bob fo apples). I am going to set up pumpkins to carve (that way we have decoration for Sunday!), leaf rubbing (collect leaves, put out crayons and wax paper), possibly pin the face on the jack-o-lantern, maybe a pumpkin themed bean bag toss, and a balloon game, ala Martha Stewart, where you fill balloons with confettis and stuff (we are going to do silly bands and stickers) and then you pop the balloon and hoorah prizes!!!

We are doing it potluck style, we have asked for no candy, and I am really excited! Although I have 2 midterms this week and jury duty and our costumes aren't done yet and it's already Tuesday (practically)!
