Anyone's child have a Katie Beckett Waiver for Medicaid?

We're waiting for the results of our application and I can't find much information about the program. Do you remember how long it took your application to go through, it seems like it is taking ages? Also, I was told today that if DS was approved through Katie Beckett we would also be eligible for WIC. Again, can't find much info about that either, if it's true and what it would mean (i.e., what WIC would provide). Any info you can share?

It varies from state to state. texas has a Rider that allows children who require 24 hour nursing care to jump ahead in the process. It requires an overnight stay in a nursing home to verify the child meets the criteria, but after that it took us 2 months for our approval. However, it was retroactive to the date of the application. (I had to call all our docs & therapists, give them the info and then they billed medicaid and refunded our copays).

If the child is on a medical diet (i.e. g-tube feedings) Medicaid will pay for the enteral nutrition supplies. If not, then the child qualifies for WIC. If so, the physician will have to write a prescripton for anything other than a normal diet (i.e. no dairy, gluten free).

It didn't take us long at all. I applied in July and was approved by the end of Aug. I was really surprised they told me it would take up to 6 months. It might have helped us that he was already labeled disable when we did ssi for him. I didn't know that we would still he able to get wic so i will look into that.

I'm applying soon. We just got DS's diagnosis of Aspergers and ADHD. I'm hoping it won't take that long. I've heard the norm is about 2 months but heard some people say they got approved in as little as 2 weeks.
