We co-sleep with both of our LO's. They are now 1 and 2.
We currently have two double beds pulled up together to suit this arrangement, and it was working well for a long time... except that now both little ones take up so much space on the beds now as they obviously aren't getting any smaller.
We considered getting a twin to increase bed space, but ended up deciding not to and seeing if we could make what we had work. For awhile, I started just putting my son and daughter on one bed, sideways, so we could have the other bed. It worked well until I night weaned my son recently. My daughter still nurses at night, though. So usually, my son ends up on one bed, and my daughter ends up with me. My husband and I like to sleep on the same bed (obviously) but my daughter is taking up so much space now and I don't want to put her on the same bed as my son since she still nurses at night. I avoid sleeping too close to my son because if I do he thinks it's okay to nurse. Also, if he wakes up, he now often just sleeps with my husband. So sometimes I end up on one bed with our daughter and my husband on the other with our son.
We do have a toddler bed with a hard crib mattress (too hard IMO.) I've used it a few times for my son, but rarely. One option would be to get another mattress or try to make it more comfortable and see if he could sleep there. I don't know though - it just doesn't seem like enough space. We do also have a soft sofa floor bed...
Or we could get a twin bed and add it, like we considered before. Only problem with this is we'd rather not spend the money if we don't have to. We found an inexpensive frame but the mattress would be expensive. And we don't have twin sheets or anything. So it would just mean more money which we'd rather not spend if we don't have to...
Or we could replace a double with a king, or queen... which would be more expensive....
Or we could stick with what we have and keep doing as we were doing... but my husband said it was too crowded (he's not against our sleeping arrangements at all, but he keeps getting pushed to the edge of the bed, poor guy, lol.)
Hope that wasn't too confusing.
