best toys for visually impaired child

Hi,
My cousin's "miracle" daughter will be turning 1 soon. She was born 4 months premature and is almost blind (ROP). After several surguries, she can see some shapes and shadows. What are some recommended toys I can get her? Many of the musical toys I've seen online are for older children. She's still a tiny baby. Thanks!

Awwww! My 23 week miracle just turned seven! She too has ROP and is severely visually impaired.

Best toys:
Anything that lights up and makes noise. All those obnoxious baby toys that make noise when you push a button are a huge hit with VI babies. Fisher Price or Little Tikes makes a flash light that makes animal noises, this was a huge hit with my DD. (Especially when coupled with a metal mixing bowl and a wooden spoon in a dark room.) Also there is a stacker that lights up and sings a song when you put the rings on it, again a favorite.

Things that help with encouraging movements like doorway jumpers, outdoor swings or megasaucers.

Blocks or books with different textures.

Teething things of different textures.

Primary colors are best especially red, black and white.

Thanks hadleys_mom! Their dd is still having periodic surgeries and does have some light perception in both eyes. We're so excited for her 1st birthday since many never thought she'd make it in the early months.
