Tubal vs. Vasectomy

Thread Starter
Dh and I are done having kids. He isn't excited about a vasectomy and I'm not excitedabout getting my tubes tied. I have a couple questions you all might be able to help me with:

What are the long term effects/concerns with either procedure? What happens to the cells/fluids when they can't go where they are supposed to? Is there an increased risk of cancer or other chronic illness?

Do you still have to have general anesthesia for a tubal? (I'm terrified of this. )

I guess that's all I can think of at the moment. Other thoughts and input are welcome. TIA

Vasectomies are much easier for a man than tubal ligation for a woman. This is how my dh and I decided what to do. He has had no problem since then related to the vasectomy. I think the man's fluids just get reabsorbed into his body. It was an office procedure and the next day he was fine. You still have to use birth control until he has no sperm in his ejaculate.

Vasectomies are far less dangerous and invasive than tubals. See above links. Outpatient procedure with local anesthetic vs. general anesthesia and a hospital stay? Easy choice for us. (It's been 5 years and side-effects at all - unless you count greater spontaneity and zero fear of pregnancy!)
